Yes you are totally right, I have the same problem, I have two young daughters and I get sick of trying to explain why somethings are the way they are on t.v but, what makes it wrong.
They say that we as parents have the choice to put limits on what our children watch but, when it's all bull-$h!+ what do we do?
Heck it's even in the news now.......

I think so. When Lucille Ball was pregnant on I Love Lucy, they couldn't use the word "pregnant". Notice in shows like The Flintstones, The Dick van Dyke Show, and many others, the bedrooms had only twin beds. Most people nowadays would agree that those standards aren't as necessary, but how times have changed! As far as kids go, it is necessary for parents today to police the TV a lot more than in the past.

you think this country is bad when it comes to nudity and profanity? try soaps from South America and adverts from Europe.
Did you know in Europe, you can actually put a person's naked picture in the papers, especially if it was on public record? (an English paper showed a particular princess sun bathing in the nude) And, on top of that, you can use the F word and the S word on whatever show (i.e. a comedy or a drama) and that is all right? Because to them, there are worse offensives then a curse word!
And, South America, they have soap operas (or novellas) that actually show women and men naked, doing it? Really, them and Australia and even some Asian countries (I think Japan is one).
So, just when you think this country is bad with nudity and sexual content, just realize, we are tames compared to other countries!

I think there is too much "adult content" on t.v. for a young audience. I got rid of cable and we hardly watch the local channels anymore because I don't want my kids watching the trash that is on. Everything from talk shows to reality shows to soaps to news is all about sex drugs and violence. In my opinion kids shouldn't be exposed to that stuff, young kids that is. My kids are 1 1/2, 4 and 8 and I want them to remain children and not face the "adult" world just yet.

Well, the soaps are some of the worse things on TV. The only reason it is allowed during the soaps is that they are on when kids aren't home. I hate it. Sometimes I want that, but I want to turn to something Rated R when I want that, not family TV.

I don't believe that there is an over exposure of nudity and sexual content, it is television but I also believe that it is up to the parents to monitor what their children are viewing and not the government. My 3 sons were allowed to watch violent movies with us (Reservoir Dogs) when they were young (elementary school age) because we believed it was better to watch it with us and ask questions then to go to a friends house and be exposed without talking about what they had seen. They grew up knowing that television and movies were make believe and that shooting someone with a gun would truly kill. Video games we treated the same way, we talked about them and allowed them the freedom to play them. If you take the time to talk to your children and educate them and allow them to know that they can come to you with any kind of issue I believe that you will find that your children will have a better set of morals and a better grip on reality.

and its a very good thing you are thinking of your kids! there is just to much nasty in the world. it is also a good thing for changeing the chanel when "soaps" come on. even that can do a very bad thing to the kids. oh in other words yes there is too much sexual content everywhere.

Oh, you are so right.Every channel you turn to, it's all the same thing. I have teenagers, and I literally cringe every time they turn on the TV. Its sad that the TV studios cave in to pressure from 18 to 25 year olds, and are so willing to sacrafice any moral integrity. I love edgy Tv as much as anyone, but come on now.

Or you could just turn it off.
I don't think there is "too much" nudity or sexual content on TV in the US compared to other countries.
In Japan I saw a bra infomercial that showed 4 women tiring on bras.

I'd be more concerned about the violence on TV. Kids get desensitized to pain, blood and death..
I'd rather have my kid think there's nothing wrong with the human body(nudity) sex is OK under certain circumstances, than thinking murder, guns, hate, bullying et.al. might be fun things to try

I'm far more worried about violence and abuse on TV. If my children learn about making love through watching TV, well it's only what they will do anyway when they're older, and there's nothing wrong with that, but I certainly don't want them growing up to think it's OK to hurt, maim and kill people, or that you can shoot people without consequences, that sort of thing. Let's worry about what *really* matters...
