I am from the UK originally but now reside in Oz - 'Smart trousers' are trousers like grandad would wear to a wedding slightly formal - definately not jeans etc. England prides its self on its dress code - people usually dress up more to go out - like men still wear shirts and ties etc. including jackets - hope this is helpful - have a great time I know you will love it -

Basically no jeans, cords or 5-pocket chinos. If it is a school thing, they probably don't want you in suit trousers - just something plain and structured....trousers that you could imagine wearing with a shirt and tie. Smart = formal. If you get to London without any smart trousers, just head down to your nearest Marks & Spencers store - they will sort you out. Tally-ho!

Smart trousers or pants would be like dress pant. AKA slacks.
Get them in a nuetral color. Like black, dark navy, or gray.

Smart means a pair of neat pants, not khakis, more like the type you would wear with a suit. I hope this helps, and good luck in the U.K.!!!

"smart" is nice or dressy.
It is just another way of saying that you should have at least one outfit that you would wear to a job interview or a faculty luncheon.

"Smart" means dressy or fashionable. I would take dark dress slacks, not khakis or anything casual.
