Since it is too late for a major clean up since you are on a tight schedule with people arriving within a day I will work from your time frame.
Any of the animals that need a bath should be bathed, cages and or tanks, litter boxes all cleaned and freshened, all food and water and food dishes cleaned and replaced with fresh food and water.
Open all windows and set fans going if it is warm and the air is not circulating. If you have carpets sprinkle baking soda in the carpet to try and neutralize the odor, allow it to sit and then follow with a vacuum cleaner. Make sure if you vacuum uses a bag that the bag is clean or you will just be redepositing the odor into the air. All floor that can be swept vacuumed and mopped should be.
A fresh scent to the air can be done by simmering lemons in a pot on the stove.
There is no way to mask odors you have to just air it out and clean it up.

Clean with vinegar and water or melt scented wax or spray a carpet freshener (don't use any of the powder stuff it can ruin your vacuum) Simmer potpourri or get Cinnamon broom.use a fabric refresher (like febreze Or All) use citrus it is a natural deodorizer. And you could try this washing your curtains in some good smelling detergent and fabric softener and hang back up to dry, the fresh smell will linger.

I personally LOVE the native incense. You burn it up and in 5 minutes and while the wait your house smells freshly. there are a variety of sences as well! Expecially for smokers, or food smells, this works like a charm!
Same as oil candles. they last long and are veryy good-smelling as well.
For food smells you can use a fan --- IT WORKS ACTUALLY!
And finally for smoke use Lysol smoke free things or plug it ins.
BUT overall I reccomend incense and oil candles the best, but they might be too heavy, so use the other two options
!

A co-worker at a grocery store I worked at would fill small bowls with some vanilla extract and sponges after they stripped and waxed the floors (it gave us headaches from the fumes). Of course it didn't make the whole store smell better, but the 2 or 3 aisles we were working on were ok.
Don't know how many is "ton" of animals, but my 2 dachshunds manage to smell pretty funky even quickly after their baths. I don't know where you could manage to hide this away from the pets.
Dollar Tree stores also have a pet carpet deodorizer that works great.

Another thing you might try (even if you DO decide to do some baking to mask the scent- company ALWAYS appreciates baking...)is place some bowls around the house and fill them with vinegar. Leave them over night and that should get rid of the smell.

mix a bunch of Cinnamon with a bunch of vanilla extract and some water in a pie plate. Bake on low in the oven for about 15-20 minutes (Don't let it burn!) . Then turn off oven and leave the oven door slightly ajar until the oven cools.
