I'm still surprised that some parents think "it's only a phase and you'll get over it". They don't realize the tremendous amount of courage that it takes to tell someone that, and then they just brush you off to the side and dismiss it? That's a horrible thing to do to a person that most likely needs emotional support now more than ever.
BTW, adding to what someone else said about about the suicide rate. Gay/Bi/Trans-gender people make up roughly 5% (estimate of course) of the population, yet 30% of the total TEEN suicides are related to being Gay/Bi/Trans-gender.

If you know who you are from way deep inside, then what others believe and/or say should not have an influence. If what others say does affect you, perhaps it is time for you to re think your belief system. You need to be secure with your own beliefs, and although other people's opinions are valuable many times, they can raise questions in the minds of people causing doubt and insecurity. There may be value to that doubt because sometimes it can mean you need to challenge your own beliefs. No matter, you will find the truth to be only deep inside your own soul.

I agree with proud stud ( and my best to her )- I have also heard sermons that proclaim young homosexuals as simply experimenting or being under the influence of tv/culture which promote homosexuality- I think that by the time someone has found the courage to come out they should be supported/accepted b/c of course they are sure they are gay and they don't want to change- it is hard enough being a teen as it is but the suicide rate for gay teenagers is substantially higher than for straight teens- we can not change this sad stat. by intolerance but we can through acceptance

Some people have trouble understanding the concept of sexuality other than being straight. Some people are close-minded, others react in denial. I have several close friends who are gay and I love them just the same as my straight friends.

Well the military just came out with a rule that says gays have a mental disorder. So if that is true, then a doc should be able to tell you if you are.

I told my parents I was bisexual, they said "No, honey, you're just confused." Its interesting that homosexuality is seen as so different from heterosexuality. If you tell someone you're straight then they accept it, no problem, "of course you are." Tell the same person you're gay and it's like "No you aren't, you don't know."

Being gay is your life choice, your not made gay! If you chose to be gay, that's your problem but if someone is trying to explain that your not borne or made gay then that's the truth!

They're too narrow-minded to accept the fact that you can be anything but the suposedly perfect image that they have presumed you to be.
However, bisexuals such as myself come under this, too. A friend of mine--a lesbian friend, at that--said that being bisexual just meant that you couldn't decide which gender to love. I don't understand this. At ALL.
In otherwords, they can't handle it, so they're denying it. It doesn't make them right. It just means they're both narrow-minded and weak-minded.

Some people just don't want to understand the truth behind things. It's sometimes easier wallowing in ignorance than to face the naked truth.

I have a family member who is gay, and you know he is the same person he has always been, just because he sexual preference is not what mine is, doesn't change him at all. He was open and honest about it and I excepted it SIMPLE.
