England are part of a Great Britain (GB) team at the Olympic Games.
GB being the United Kindoms of Great Britain (Scotland, England & Wales) & Northern Ireland. So they cannot compete as an English Team at the Olympics
The corresponding Football Associations of Scotland, England, Wales & Northern Ireland have fought all of FIFA's attempts to have GB represented at the World Cup, It will never happen and it SHOULD NEVER happen.
We are all different countries and do compete as different countries in ALL other sports and at the Commonwealth Games.

Because England takes part in the Olympics only as a part of the UK and because English, Scottish and Welsh footballers would never play on the same team!!!! For example, many Scottish and Welsh people will automatically support any football team that are playing against England. I don't think people care so much with individual events.
