I got a 510 on math, 440 on reading, and 450 on writing.. is that good?

its out of 2400..

The people who said 1600 is the top score are no longer right - under the new system, there are additional sections that add points. However, a 1400 is still pretty good; right around average. I would see what your percentiles are (for example, being in the 70th percentile means you scored higher than 70% of the people) for a better idea of how good you did. The new SAT scores are different, and there's not a real good basis for what's good or bad yet. However, I don't think you have anything to worry about. :o)

Under the new scoring (after march '05), the highest you can get is 2400 (800 each section) NOT 1600. That was the old scoring (800 verbal 800 math). Under the old system 1000 was average (500 each section), so I'd assume that it's about the same for the new system, so that 1500 is average. According to Wikipedia It looks like they estimate the percentiles to be about the same. Greater than 1600 is 61%, and it looks like around 1500 will be 'average' whatever that means (50th percentile).

Look on the college board website. It should show a breakdown of scores and percentiles. If your score is somewhere above 75 or 80% it is pretty good.
By the way, try doing something to get your adrenaline up before you take it next time. I almost overslept for the last time i took it, and my score went way up to a 1420 out of the 1600.

1400 out of 1600 is pretty great. You should have no problem getting into a good college.

holy crap.... ummmm you can basically write your ticket to any college you want to go to!! The BEST score is a 1600... the average is 1000. You did FANTASTIC!!

i dont think so. you got a 58.3%. im not in high school but i have an older sister and i dont think that is the best possible score.
