We have sex daily, spicy foods just give me killer heartburn and every night we've been walking from one end of our apartment complex to the other and still nothing. Will I be pregnant for the rest of my life?!

Hi there :)

First, you have to consider that baby just might not be ready yet. I know you're miserable and YOU might be ready, but if your body isn't ready before you start induction methods (home or hospital methods), you can interfere more than help.

The things you are doing will be helpful *if you are already ready*. If not, then you're just going to frustrate yourself. The walking is very helpful because it helps settle the baby into an optional position for birthing, the sex is great because it's good to be juicy and loving with your man at this time (sex and labor have a LOT of similiarities- all the same hormones you have during sex are the same ones that are there in labor!).

If you are ready, there are many things you can do. I've posted a link in the sources you can check out for ideas.

No need to make yourself miserable, it sounds like your body just isn't ready yet. Even a hospital induction has a good chance of ending in cesarean if you start it before your body is 'ripe'. Google "Bishop's Score" for more information. Good luck, I know those last weeks are rough!

aww you poor thing, i really feel for you, you do only have 2 weeks left all tho i know i am getting induced next week and that seem to be taking for EVER

1. Enemas- this causes the bowels to contract and could cause the uterus to contract, which will open and efface the cervix.

2. Exercise- Walking, swinging in a swing and general exercise contracts the uterus.

3. Fasting and Dehydration- If pre-term labor occurs, a big percentage of the time, dehydration is the cause. This is a dangerous mode of induction and should be used with the utmost in caution.

4. Herbs- Black and Blue cohosh, borage oil, castor oil, evening primrose oil, goldenseal, mugwort, and yarrow are uterine stimulants. Evening primrose oil placed directly on the cervix will aid in dilation and effacement.

5. Intercourse- Having sex helps to induce labor because semen contains prostaglandins which helps to dilate and efface the cervix. Orgasm also causes the uterus to contract.

6. Nipple Stimulation- This causes the uterus to contract much the same way an IV Pitocin drip would. Stimulating the nipples causes the release of oxytocin which contracts the uterus. This can be done by someone sucking on the nipple much the way a baby would while nursing or by placing the nipple between the thumb and forefinger and “rolling” it for 10 to 20 minutes at a time every couple of hours.

Some things, it appears, are best left to nature, or at least to qualified medical personnel. Many do-it-yourself techniques for inducing labour have been suggested, must more are either ineffective, have drawbacks, or both. For instance, nipple stimulation appeared to work in one study. In the study, women who from 39 weeks on stimulated their nipples for three hours or more daily were much less likelu to carry past their due dates (and, with twenty - one or mour hours a week spent on nipple stimulation, were also probably less likelu to have time for a life). However, since nipple stimulation can not only induce labour but produce very strong contractions (much as oxytocin can) it's not a technique that should be carried out without medical supervision - even if you can find the hours in your day for it. In other words, don't try this at home.
Other techniques for bringing on labour that you may have heard about are unproven in the success department; they indluce; sexual intercourse, (it may or may not work, but at least you can have fun trying), walking a lot (as long as activity hasn't been restricted by your practitioner), raspberry tea leaf (do not use this before your due date as it may trigger early contractions), a single dose of castor oil (again, check with a practitioner, many women say it just produces bowel cramps, not contractions).

poor neon...you never complain! i'm surprised to hear that you're ready to end it. you always seem so happy!!!! and to the jackas*s that answered with a "why get pregnant without doing research first" you should probably think about the possibility that this pregnancy might have been a surprise to the expectant mother and her husband. idiot. you've been doing great so far and just hang in there!!! im surprised you didn't go into labor your last day at work (day before yesterday). you'll get there chick, give her some time she'll come out when she's good and ready. i think its safe to say that your baby is as stubborn as you!

some women swear that eating lots of pineapple will bring on labour. Its not medically proven, but you never know! Castor oil can be dangerous for the baby. The baby may pass meconium in the womb and go into distress...Just remember whatever you take to bring on labour, baby gets it too. I have also heard that blowing up balloons can put pressure onto your cervix....maybe you could throw a 'baby get out!' party with lots of balloons and pineapples?/

Bless your heart ....Sounds like you are doing everything you can without inducing. Hang in there! I know at the end ofa pregnancy is soooooooooo long! Try to find something to occupy yourself and stay busy while you are waiting. If you are physically able, find someone to babysit or help or visit. Believe it or not that baby does come out. He/she cannot stay in there forever!
Good luck!

Run up and down the stairs. Mow the lawn. Move lots of furniture. What's wrong with inducing?

A few tablespoons of castor oil. It worked for both of my kids when the pregnanct dragged on too long. It doesn't tast good, but it gets the right stuff moving!

i feel your pain. both of my 23 girls were late. i had to be induced both times. there is nothing you can do but wait. just be normal and wait. you don't want to tire yourself out right before the big day. if you are past due and starting to dilate your doc will induce. just don't try anything to self induce, I have seen women hurt themselves or their babies that way.
