You know, that is such a great question. I'm stumped. I do love the one about "they probably hired an illegal immigrant"!! that is funny! probably totally true. She said J/K, I'm not, heck, I'm from LA!!!
But honestly, that is really lame. It could depend on several things such as the type of job you're going for. I suspect that since you said "second job", it must be something at a store or something like that; sales, retail, hospitality. I mean, clearly, you're not an engineer and trying to get a second job as a financial consultant! not cause you couldn't, just because of the time factor. SO, with that said, I think that it is a total lazyness thing on their part. If you're going for jobs that have a super high turnover such as retail or hospitality, then first of all, there's probably a lot of "younger" type managers and they do their job as an H.R. person by just calling qualified candidates. Then once they do that, they give the pile of resumes of "available people" to the hiring manager and since that hiring manager is probably 26, they have no clue what to really look for and probably take someone who either 1, was right there at the right time 2, had similar experience at a similar business or 3, didn't even bother filling the position.
I'm betting on this. If you're going for these types of jobs, you are GROSSLY over estimating them!!! SO many managers are clueless and have little business being a manager in the first place. they just happened to be at the right place at the right time for a promotion. Don't despair. If there's somewhere where you really want to work, go in and hand the hiring manager your resume. Human contact does go far.

they are probably just calling everyone, like a lot of people and they have so many to choose from. If I were you I would make them work , ask them what company they are calling from, what they do, what they expect from their employees, and make them invest a lot of energy and time into you, then they figure half the training is done, and with half the training done already, they are more likely to hire you, as your interested in them. Often employers do not hire based on the answers you give, but the questions you ask.
All in all though, the best place to find work is by asking your friends and relatives... people in high places.
Seems your doing well, keep up the good effort and something will happen.

Next time someone calls to tell you that someone else will be calling you to set up an interview, ask if you can speak with that person now. Don't hang up until you've scheduled an interview!
Hiring managers see hundreds of resumes and applications each day, so it's highly likely that yours was misplaced.

There is a general misconception among hiring managers that people who are available are not good employees. The idea is if you had the skills and qualifications you would not be "available" long. It is a horrible way to determine if a candidate is worth bringing in but it happens all the time.

Employers will usually avoid saying something to you negative about your interview. As a result, it is hard to know what oyu did wrong and to improve about it.

Don't let them hang up on you. When they say someone will call back, ask them if you can do a phone interview now! If they can't, don't let them off the phone without getting a time to call back or having a time for an interview.

Actually, your friend is not the one who apply some job by the employer. There are many of people who apply for the job.The employer is in process to compare and choose the best one for the final result.

YOu should ask a lawyer. Since the Phone call originated in a Hospital, that might mean it maybe regulated under Hiipa as well. The problem is that there is no proof of damages.

Jobs go fast. You have to keep on em. when they tell you they will have someone call you, ask them if they are available to speak to you now, and set up an apointment.
