Here's a two-fer:

Of course ya gotta see the Herr's Potato Chip factory tour in Nottinham (Chester Dounty?), PA....

If you're very hardcore - I highly reccommend the PPG Float Glass Plant Factory tour in Meadville, PA.... I don't know how the heck you'd get in -- I work in the Architectural industry, so we had a professional tour of the plant with about 20 other people.... way cool - both melting tanks were burning that day - at the begining of the line, walking between two furnaces that turn sand and cullet into molten glass - the frickin' ambient air temperature in the place was 350 degrees F. -- literally - I haven't complained during the summer since that tour 6 years ago!

The semi-cooled glass had a fly trapped on it like taffy - very bizarre!

The Herr's Snack Factory tour is in the south-eastern corner of PA in Nottingham, PA. It's about 1 1/2 hours from both Baltimore MD and Philadelphia.
