Of the four wars in my lifetime none came about because the U.S. was too strong."

We are winning it. And yes, we have found Weapons of mass Destruction.

If you want to compare this to Vietnam - Militarily we won that War, politically we lost. How it can compare is that militarily, once again we are winning, and Bush is doing what he can to ensure that politically the same mistakes aren't made again.

We can win this war if Publications such as the NY Times doesn't divulge all of our tactics too. It'll be hard to win when the enemy knows what we are doing!

What war?

To my knowledge, Congress has not officially declared a war, and per the Constitution (Article I Section 8) only Congress can do so, not the President.

If Congress has declared an actual war (not just the Authorization for the Use of Military Force), can you identify the session and public law number?

Besides, how can there be a war without an identified other side? If there is an other side, who is empowered to negotiate a cease fire or surrender for them? Can anyone point to a government or even an individual who has the authority to declare that attacks on the US will no longer occur?

Without an identified enemy, and without a formal declaration by Congress, what we have is not a war -- just a Commander-in-Sheik who is usurping power by ignoring the constitution. And doing so in a way that will never end, until he wants it to.

Because if there is no single identifiable enemy to surrender, the so-called "War on Terror" will never be over until either the US unilaterally declares that it is over, or there's nobody left to fight. And that's never going to happen.

We're not in a war - George Bush has committed an illegal, unconstitutional act of invading another sovereign country that DID NOT invade or provoke us in any way!

There are only two reasons Bush attacked Iraq: 1) to 'get even' with Saddam Husseing for humiliating his daddy during Desert Storm; and 2) because Big Dick Cheney wants all that oil swimming underneath Iraq's sands. Until Cheney has a rock-solid, iron-clad arrangement in place to steal all that oil, the USA WILL NOT WITHDRAW ANY TROOPS FOR IRAQ!

Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld are the most evil, incompetent,and corrupt bastards ever to occupy the White House. The sitting U.S. Congress is the most evil, incompetent and corrupt body every to occupy the Capitol Building in this country's history. All of these so-called "honorable" men and women deserve to be impeached, or tried for high treasons - and, if convicted, all should face a public firing squad. Consider all the unspeakable atrocities Bush & Co. have committed, all because Cheney wants his Halliburton and Bechtol buddies to get richer and richer and richer. Bush has:

1. Massacred tens of thousands of Iraqi citizens;
2. Tortured Iraqi prisoners without regard for the Geneva Convention;
3. Killed more than 2,500 U.S. soldiers;
4. Initiated failed economic policies that have ruined this country's fiscal stability;
5. Neglected the poor, the disabled, the sick, the hungry, the homeless and the disadvantaged in our country;
6. Played "Robin Hood in Reverse" by robbing the poor and giving it all to the wealthiest people in America;
7. Tarnished our country's reputation as a global leader and peacekeeper;
8. Threatened other smaller countries, thereby forcing them to consider building nuclear weapons so they can defend themselves against the world's worst "evil empire" - the U.S.A.;
9. Destroyed our country's environment and ecological balance;
10. Turned America into a police state where citizens are presumed guilty until proven innocent.

George Bush and his crazy cronies need to be punished for their incredible crimes against humanity!

If you are talking about the military invasion in Iraq, it is simply not a war, but an occupation for oil, oil money, and oil transportation.
Americans simply do not have a clue about the massive oil infrastructure being built by Haliburton, Bechtel, and other oil corporations. All oil money is transferred to a federal reserve bank in New York City. Managers, assistant managers, ad vomitum, are taking percentages off the top. Oil concessions are being sold by an adviser named Dick Cheney, who had parceled out the geographic oil areas of Iraq before 911, thereby keeping the Chinese from controlling the concessions. There is so much more here than the average person will ever know about. I hope the oil executives send their children to the best private schools, attend their European vacations in their expensive European homes, and put their massive assets in a bank in Switzerland.

What war? The war against terrorism (which still takes place across the world every moment) or the war against Iraq (in which we lose soldiers everyday)? Either way, no.

Terrorism cannot be defeated because it is the violent act against a government or country, and as long as someone feels like they aren't being heard they will fight using whatever means necessary.

Iraq doesn't count really. What are we supposed to win? Are we supposed to conform Iraq into a mini US? That's not going to happen unless we keep a military presence for the next who knows how long. And even then they will rebel against control.

So, anybody want to tell me what we are fighting against, or for?

The "War on Terror" is a farce! Evident by the fact that the Administration obviously lied about WMD's, and has shown no real effort to find their partner in crime, Usama Bin Laden.
This "war" had been planned since the first Bush Administration, and shows the neo-con's true agenda to manipulate the American people, and infringe on our rights.
Anyone who backs this criminal administration should be tried for treason, just as this Administration will, after this years' mid-terms!

Good Luck Neo-Cons!

The War on Terrorism is not a true war because most of our enemies our unknown, but don't misunderstand me, I am not giving any sympathy to the Bush Administration. The War on Terrorism needed to be fought, but the way the Bush Administration has gone about it has been completley wrong. First of all they claimed there were WMDs which they obviously weren't. Now were they lying about this as a reason to start the invasion of Iraq, or just misinformed is up to you to decide. However, where they went completley wrong is when they didn't inform the American people. We are the people that put Bush in power, and you think he would keep us informed. However, we continued to search for these WMDs. The next place Bush went wrong was in the villian he chose to search for. Instead of going after Bin Ladin, Bush chose to chase after Sadam. Now the people of Iraq have plenty of reasons to chase after him and sentence him to death as they have, but Bush chose to do it for him when he commited no major crime against America as Bin Ladin did. I said before that the War on Terrorism needed to be fought, and it still does. Terrorists have reigned for too long in countries in the Middle East and their strike against America deserved retaliation, but Bush and his Administration went about retaliating completley wrong. And to me, the most disapointing part of this War on Terror is that the Bush Administration has used the American fear of terrorists to take away our rights by tapping our calls and other forms of invading our privacy. I only hope that Americans will finally take a stand against this Administration and stand up for our rights. It's bad enough terrorists striking out against us without our own government stealing our rights behind our backs.

This is not an "ordinary" war where armies from two sides
fight each other; these are people who want to kill men
women and children in public places.....they cut off heads,
hands and other parts of people they capture (and we think
those in Guantanome are being tortured). It is not easy to
fight "crazy and insane" people who carry bombs on themselves
in order to kill anyone they can get near (as well as themselves).
We must rid the world of as many of these kinds of inhumane
devils as we can, and that doesn't come easy, my friends.
God bless our military who have volunteered to carry out this
mission. If you're not for us winning against these terrorists,
then you must be for the terrorists. You shall know them by
their fruit.

well... the question seems to be... what is "winning"...

is winning setting up a democratic government? what if that government decides to turn its self into a theocracy in two years after we leave, like Iran... have we won?

I am very afraid that it's going to be tough to set up a democratic government in an area where democracy and freedom aren't valued assets... the teachings of the Koran are valued above all... it's very tough to fight with religion...
