I ordered a rose plant from autumn ridge nursery over a month ago, I recieved the "lifeless" looking thing a week later, put it into the ground and not a thing has happened, I have used miracle grow and watered it and tried to take very good care of it but with no sucess. I have no leaves on it and certainly NO roses, wondering if anyone out there knows about growing roses and can tell me if there is any hope in it or if I should just give up,
thanks

I am assuming you ordered a bare root rose bush. For starters were the canes green with leaves on them when they arrived?
A lot of bare roots will look naked, some times with just nubs that are signifying growth. Did the root system look healthy or were the canes just dried up, woody and or black with no leaves.
If it was dead when it arrived you should have called them or e-mailed them about your rose, I am sure they come with some guarantee. You have to be careful when using mail order nurseries unless it is a very reputable place with a good history.
The other case scenario is the rose was healthy and you planted it improperly. You could have buried it too deep not allowing the base of the plant to be exposed and it suffocated, You also need to make sure that when you dug the hole you watered the hole, made a cone like hill in the center and splayed out the roots around this hill, then filled in and watered making sure that there were no air pockets.
If you are certain that it is the nursery's fault then you need to e-mail customer service and express your dissatisfaction.
Good luck!

Hi Lorree,

I have planted hundreds of plants. Roses of a few types as well. I did not see the plant when you got it but there is the chance it was about to die or was dead when you got it. However when planting them you can kill them by planting them too deep in the ground.

Dig a hole twice the size of the container it came in. If it was bag-ed and bare rooted you need to dig a hole about a foot deep and about that big around. Depending on the size of the plant. Fill the hole about a fourth of the way with water and put garden soil in the water. put the plant in the hole and put more garden soil in the hole around it till you fill the hole. The dirt will be a little damp to the muddy side. This gets the air out of the hole which will kill the plant if it has a large air pocket near the roots. The top of the roots where it goes into the stem is called the crown. this should be under the top of the dirt about an inch at most. Any deeper will smother the plant. You need to build a small mound using garden soil or some kind of mulch all the way around the plant so you can fill it with water everyday for a week maybe two. If it don't grow the way it just told you, It was dead before you got it.

I ordered some roses once from a reputable grower but the roses arrived VERY sick . Sounds like yours did too. Contact the growers and get your money back. You can still get roses at local greenhouses or Lowes.

ok well if you just leave it be and let mother nature do its own thing it might work especially if it rains a drizzle twice a week it could be that you are over feeding it or over watering it cuz that can kill it maybey try to water it just twice a week and stop using miracle grow cuz that **** dont work at all it just makes it worse trust me

It should definitely be growing at this time of year. The nursery sent you a dead rose. Contact them.
