It's funny to look at the answers people gave. You can tell whether they are liberal or conservative based on the negative slant they gave the opposite group. Allen3 gave the best answer. There is no one exact definition.

The meaning change over time and there are regional variations, not only in different countries but within countries. For instance, a Texas liberal may hold many differing views from say a liberal in Vermont but he/she may find they have more in common with a conservative in Colorado. From the early 1900s in the US, generally speaking, liberal were considered to be in favor of a large governement involvement while the conservatives wanted a limited role in governement, but these things change. To further complicate things , you can be a fiscal conservative but socially a liberal in that you do not think the government should make moral decisions for you.

it is different approaches...a liberal is outspoken and goes for things directly. They are also open minded. Conservatives kinda observe in the backround and go for things indirectly. They have more patience and slowly gain what they want.

Today's Conservatives are very religous, and beleive in Military action and pre-emptive strikes on countries, they typically pro-corporations. (and used to be for small goverment, except military spending.
Liberals, beleive in welfare of people over corporations, they believe in government fiscal responsiblity, and military discreation. Today's Liberals are for human rights and environmental protection. (basically they believe in human and humanity over corporate profits, as well the protection of the rights of people, (not dependant upon sex, race, sexual orientation)
