Question

one of my poems below, what do you think of it?

Everything about the rose,
Reminds me of my mother.
Those dark red petals how they seem,
To hug and kiss each other.

I wonder if she saw the same,
As she gazed upon it's splendour.
A rose so red as if it bled,
Reminds me of my mother.

Erm, is there a Mr Freud in the house? Seriously Oedipal themes in there - comparing your mother to dark red bleeding rose petals?!

I've no doubt you're sincere in the emotion you want to convey but using overtly sexual imagery may not be the best way forward.

And it doesn't scan (i.e. the rhythm's off) in the first verse.

I prefer war poems personally, like Wilfred Owen's Dulce Et Decorum Est, but it's pretty good, yeah. It has some nice imagery.

I read your poem with expectation,
and was sorely disappointed,
your effort was a pleasant read,
but sentiment disjointed.

don't let my comments spoil your dream
keep writing as you feel,
and someday somewhere someone may,
spot a winner for real.
