Mercedes have been a status symbol for generations as the car to have in terms of luxury. This is because those who drive them do not care when they breakdown, they pay whatever, to them it's the price of having the ultimate luxury car.
Lexus is the modern luxury car because no one would associate Toyota with Luxury so they had to create a manufacturer that would embody luxury. So you get quality and dependibility of Toyota with the Luxury equivalent of Mercedes, of course Lexus doesn't have the clout that Mercedes does because Mercedes has decades on Lexus, given time Lexus will come into their own because proven dependibility in luxury will ultimately win and when it comes to that, Mercedes can't compete, their cars have had mechanical design flaws for years.

depends on what your needs are.....do you need an overpriced toyota? Buy a lexus. If you need something top of the line with a ridiculous price tag, buy the mercedes. Over all the lexus is going to last you forever. Japanese manufactured cars will run until the body falls off. Mercedes...........well german engineered goodness. Also mercedes engines are designed through chrysler. So do you want a $60k chrysler? Lexus for reliability and mercedes for that "I have more money than you and your parents" look.

That all depends on what part of the world one is from; in the Middle East and in Africa the Mercedes is used as a TAXI as an American is hard for me to see a Taxi being a luxury car. But on the other hand a Lexus is just a fancy Toyota...so I guess the Germans win because Mercedes created the luxury vehicle and all the rest are just imitations.

Lexus, I believe, is a better made car
Mercedes is beautiful but I think they've been slipping in the last few years.

Mercedes is always the best one in the world...all the richest people use Mercedes Benz...Lexus is good but it's not in the Luxury dictionary book.

The Lexus has superior appointments and is superior from a technical point of view. I would pick the Lexus as being a MUCH finer vehicle. Jules, Auto technician and lecturer. Australia.
