Like the GM or my beloved Leafs JFJ you've been into the wacky tabacky (he must be on something with the trades and signings he made) if you think its any other rivalry than the Habs and Leafs.
Take your little rangers-ilsanders geographic rivalry multiply it by 10 times add a dose of animosity for the last century, sprinkle in a cultural difference, and add a linguistic component and you'll know what I'm talking about.

A couple of years ago it was Detroit vs Colorado for sure, Kris Draper and Claude Lemeuix were at the centre of that. More recently it was Steve Moore and Todd Bertuzzi of Colorado and Vancouver respectively. Bertuzzi has since been traded so that will die down as well... Montreal and Toronto is the longest for sure (Both are Original Six Teams with storied histories) and probably the best thing going right now.. (even though Toronto had a down year this year)

1. Colorado/Detroit
2. Philadelphia/NewJersey
3 .Rangers/Islanders
4. Toronto/Montreal
5. Edmonton/Calgary
6. Boston/Montreal
This is one that I completely forgot about (that is why I am editing this) Montreal- Quebec Nordiques
Rivalries are a great thing for sports it is too bad that some of the teams that are now playing don't have the rivalries of the past teams. I don't think that we are ever going to hear of a Ducks-Sharks rivalry, becuase the teams are still just too new to have that rivalry

Toronto vs Montreal, and Edmonton vs Calgary. The NY teams do have a good rivalry, but it's never been as intense as these two.

Montreal vs. Toronto is probably the biggest and longest lasting rivalry. After that, it's a toss up between Rangers/Devils and Flames/Oilers

Anyone who knows hockey will tell you the biggest rivalries in hockey are Montreal - Boston and Montreal - Toronto.
Colorado - Detroit doesn't even come close to the heated aggression when the Habs are playing Toronto or Boston.
Go HABS!
