I think that if I was to purchase a summer home outside the United States it would be Panama. The government is pretty stable now, the weather is extremely good year round, it is close to the United States, where if something happened to my family I could be there in a short time.

They have excellent beaches, night life and pretty good shopping areas.

I hope this has been of some use to you, good luck.

I think it would be Italy. I grew up in Belgium and I never cared for the people there and in France. Mostly the women. They are taught to compete with each other and it's just ugly. But I LOVE France. But the Italians are just really nice people and are very open (other than the mob!!!) and the weather is nice. It's still a bit third world but it's not as bad as Greece.

I don't really trust any other continent other than America and Europe. South America is still so unbelieveably corrupt and I'd be fearful of the gvt. taking my house just cause they had a bad cup of coffee that morning!!

Dubrovnik, Croatia. Best kept secret in Europe. Stunningly beautiful seascapes on the Adriatic Sea. Beautiful old European city, not yet spoiled by tourists. Wonderful people, many of whom speak English very well. Very reasonable cost of living and very modest real estate prices.

May well retire there.

Ireland, because I'm an Eirephile, and because I'm not a sun worshipper, I prefer a mild climate.
