I'm not going to say I was born that way, but I'm not going to say I "went over" either. When I was about 9, I realized I had a crush on my best (girl) friend. Very confusing, but I became OK with it, at 10 I decided that for me, it didn't matter who I loved, just that I loved. I went all through my adolescent and teen aged years being openly(for the most part) bi-sexual, which is no "choice" any child would make. No one wants the harassing, the beatings, the ostracism. 6 years ago, I lost interest in men all together. I am not physically attracted to them, I don't connect with them well, and to be blunt, I find the thought of sexual penetration disgusting, I get nothing from it. After 6 years of only being with women, I am much happier. So, I didn't get turned on by wonder woman at age 5, but I didn't just decide to "cross over" either. I hope I didn't come off as bashing, I didn't want to. You seem to have asked your question out of general desire for knowledge, not to be mean. The bottom line is, I (or any other gay person) can not make you understand how I/we feel, no one can make any one truly understand ones feelings unless both people have been in the same place. The only thing I/we can do ie explain my/our feelings and hope that others are willing to accept them for what they are, feelings. To answer your original question, I don't think my sexual preference should earn me "special" rights, but I do think that being a human being should "earn" me the same rights that all other human beings enjoy!
Blessings

Do you believe that somebody's religion should award/earn them rights?
If I'm an athiest, what's with Christians suddenly wanting rights or being proud of their religion? Science said it was wrong, physics says it's impossible. Don't tell me your born that way, I think you let it go too far. I'm a man and I've had a christian friend and he could never explain why he "went over". A woman I asked in school said she was "born again". I think that's a lie too. I have three sisters and slowly watch them grow and I don't her them suddenly saying I love christ! I believe in God! I want the truth, the real reason! In a way I know you will bash me. Another instinct says that you will pull the "because I can" trick. Eitehr way it won't satisfy me, maybe nothing will.
Here is your answer. Gays should get protection from being fired, persecuted, and denied rights just like Christians should.
I'm not a christian but I support your "special rights" you should do the same.

I don't know why... maybe its a premonition... but I'm getting a message from the spirit world... something like ... sickbitch... I don't know what it means... does that mean anything to you?
Nobody's sexuality should award or earn them rights. Not heterosexuals, not homosexuals... or anything inbetween. Only somebody as biggoted and borderline retarded as you would say or think such a thing.
You are right, sweetie... everybody who's gay is lying about it and everybody who's straight knows. You must be some sort of genius. NOT!
Perhaps you don't understand the rights of the citizens of the United States. There is a very good chance you weren't born here. So I'm going to explain this to you... slowly.. I understand your learning disability.
The Fourth Amendment of the Constitution of the United States grants EVERY citizen EQUAL rights. When certain groups think, for what ever reason they choose to give, that another group isn't equal to them, the Constitution says that isn't the case. The constitution doesn't say equality only applies to heterosexuals. No matter how you feel about gay people and the "sin" they participate in, the Constitution is the law of the land.
I don't want more rights than you. I want the same rights. It's what our nation was founded on. I'm sure there are numerous countries you could move to with less equality. You may be happier in one of those. I'm certain gay people would be happier if you weren't here.
You are right. This question wasn't about getting an answer. It's about spewing your hatred across the internet for your amusement. Nothing can or will change your mind.
Guess what? You don't have to like it, agree with it, support it, or sanction it... it's gonna be here anyway. I suggest for your own peace of mind, you just ignore it. It would be so tragic if you died young of a heart attack or stroke due to the stress homosexuality puts on your itty bitty brain and cold, hard heart.

Sexuality is not in question it is what society calls marriage. If a man had sex with his daughter it is not called marriage it is called lewd and lascivious conduct, if a man has sex with a girl friend it is not called marriage, it is called fornication. If a man and a women live together it is called co-habitation. The name is what is relative here not what right each group has. The only group of people that are given fiscal consideration for what they are called is married people.
The underlying question is why would the Federal government give consideration to the "married"? The answer is very very easy it is for monetary reasons. Each child born under the vows of those circumstances will produce the Federal government with close to an average of 2 million in wages and $500,000 or more in tax revenue. As a matter of fact the Australian government is now offering their citizens $4,000 for each child they have.
Our own IRS offers the earned income tax credit to people who have children. The conclusion here is that everyone has the right to be married, in addition to that only Webster has the right to change the definition of that word. IE Bill Clinton tried to change the definition of the word sex. Note the definition did not change.
In addition for all those non history buffs there was never a constitutional ammedment that required a separation of church and state. The ammendment was that there be no state established religion and the second part was that people have the right to worship however or whomever they desire. The civl liberties union coined the phrase "seperation of church and state".

To directly answer your original question, no. I believe everyone is entitled to the same fundamental rights and that sexuality has nothing whatsoever to do with it.
Why does it matter whether homosexuals/bisexuals are "born with it" or "went over"? What power does this have over your life either way?
I am heterosexual but not by choice. I didn't pick this as no one ever offered me any alternatives. I couldn't choose to be gay if I wanted to. I can't swear that I was born this way, maybe I was conditioned this way. But at any rate, if you asked me what the "real" reason for my sexuality is, I wouldn't be able to tell you. I just am the way I am. I don't see why anyone owes me an apology for not being the same way.

people should be proud of being themselves. diversity should be celebrated.
and we're not asking for extra rights. we're asking for the same rights straight people have already gotten. so, since you already have rights, you're more guilty than we are.
god said it was wrong? i don't believe in any god.
nature said it was impossible? how do you know that? homosexuality occurs in many different animals, by the way.
and yes, i was born with it.
why would your lesbian friend have been able to explain her sexuality? can you explain yours in the way you expected her to?
and your thinking that someone's lying doesn't mean they are.
maybe your three brothers aren't queer. and considering the "action heros" you mentioned, maybe they aren't even old enough to start having real crushes yet. or maybe they're afraid to tell their homophobic older sister that they've experienced same-sex attraction.
no one knows the real reason. but the fact that we feel same-sex attraction proves that it's real. someone would have to have experienced it to actually know whether it's a choice or not. and if you have, you're not as straight as you think.

Is this a question?
You say you don't believe that being gay is inborn, despite the loads of biological evidence and the testimony of many gay people.
You want an explanation, but you don't want the one that most of gay people consider to be true and based on fact. You're basically telling gay people that we're either 1) stupid or 2) all under mass delusion. Oh, and apparently the entire scientific community is as well.
So basically, you're looking for some random queer to tell you exactly what you want to hear, so you can justify your own ignorance, dismissal of evidence, and cracked out belief structure.
That's not a question. That's just stupid.
And rights shouldn't have to be earned, thats why they are called "rights" moron. We should all have them because we're all equal members of the human condition. In practice, it doesn't always work like that, but that is why we fight for them. Not because we have to earn them, but because they are being held hostage from us and we deserve them.

I think a persons sexuality is really no big deal. They say that gay man is just a female stuck in a man's body and vice versa, and I really don't see why everyone makes such a big deal about these things. And not everyone believes in any God's, so they don't care about that... Getting a little off subject, what is with some of these God's anyways? Sorry if I offend some people, but most God's say, "Oh I love everyone", but then they single out lots of other people. First of all God is prejudiced against gay people and animals, obviously, because he lets people kill them even though, OOPS, it's a sin to KILL, according to the ten commandments, so I'd say God (the Christians' and Jews' God) is a big fat hippocrite. Ya gotta face the facts, people. Sorry if I went into a big rant here, but sometimes God just really makes me mad because he loves everyone.......EXCEPT GAY PEOPLE AND ANIMALS AND PROSTITUTES AND SUCH. But oh well. Sorry if I offended anyone and went of topic.

I didn't choose to be bisexual, but I choose to act on same sex attraction, that's the difference. As long as I can remember I've been attracted to both sexes and that's not something I can change. I can't wake up one morning, see a woman I am attracted to, and think nothing. That just doesn't happen, as much as I may try to change it. However, I do choose to approach an attractive woman and ask her out. So you don't choose your sexuality, but you choose to act on it. I don't think sexuality is something you're born with, I think it is developed, at the same time you can't choose it. I have an older brother that I'm always around. Growing up I played basketball with him and his friends, I talked with them, I hung out with them when they were checking out girls. And I developed an attraction for girls because of that. It's not something I can consciously change though. Maybe if I had spent all of my childhood with other females checking out guys, I would be straight. But I think it's something that develops during childhood and early adolescence.
As for your whole God spiel, I do not now, and have never, believed any gods exist. So I honestly don't care about what God said. And I don't want special rights, I just want to be treated as an equal. Don't give me that bullshit "Homosexuals can marry too, they just have to marry people of the opposite sex" crap. I want the right to marry the person I love, nothing less.

Not going to bash you. But your question kinda made me sad. You said you asked a guy at school and he said he was born that way. Your response is to disrespect his answer--his life--and say you think he was lying. Wow.
I'm a gay man. I know I was born this way. Why? I have no freakin' idea. I did not want this because I knew how people felt about people who are gay. I was 9 when I first started to realize I wasn't attracted to girls like I "should" be. It really scared me and I told myself over and over again that I wasn't gay. I prayed and cried and begged God not to let it be so with me. Not me.
But I was gay. I am gay. And it took me years to come to terms with that. Years of hating myself because I knew I would probably be seen as a freak to my family and friends. And I believed what I was taught that God says it's wrong and I'll go to hell.
Then I realized. I was *made* this way. And God wouldn't make me only to cruely, heartlessly damn me. I am a good person, not evil, or sick, or perverted.
*sigh*...But it sounds like your mind is made up and you won't accept any reason except what you choose to believe, regardless of what others experience. But I truly believe it's wrong for you to say that the guy you asked was lying, or that you may say that I am lying. You haven't walked in our shoes. Our lives are real. Our experiences are real. The pain that I suffered as I struggled with this was real. And I am a Christian. And the most wonderful revelation of all--for me---was the realization that Jesus never said anything against same gender realtionships. Jesus--God made flesh--who walked this earth and had the opportunity (and took the opportunity) to make many important statements about many important things *never* said said a *single* word against gays. Not a single word.

You question topic is flawed. You are suggesting that we shouldn't have the same rights as everyone else based on sexuality (that is NOT sexual preference). Regardless of race, skin colour, sexuality or religion all peoples should be given the basic human rights and should be treated the same.
And regarding your opinion on the fact that people are not born that way, I think you'll find that modern science has identified it as genetic. It's like going against fate man.
