Waving to someone behind you, that is embarrassing!
Because you probably look embarrassed yourself for having waved back at them, and that makes you feel ridiculous (unless you are with someone else who you can turn to and laugh at your own stupidity, and then it feels OK!) But that´s only my opinion. I have done this on more than one occasion and will probably do it many more times to come!

i think number 2 because you would feel stupid and if you waved to the person and then realized it wasn't that person you could always act like you were waving to someone else.

1st you can play it off and try to make new friends out of it, but the 2nd one would worse:
Because imagine this.......
If a beautiful person waves that you believe is "date worthy" and you wave back thinking that they had waved at you and you are flattered right? but they ended up waving to the other beautiful person behind you?
.......embarassing....crushing.....it would be the moment where you would feel you need to look for chocolate to recuperate.

Having someone wave to you and you wave back but they where waving to the person behind. (Hey, did you expect me to type all that again by myself?????)
Your DQ (Dork Quotient) goes through the roof if you do that.....but if you wave at the wrong person - and they wave back - then *they* get treated right at the ole' DQ!

having them wave at the person behind you and you wave....because you would look like a loser....but if you wave at someone you thought you knew, you can play it off like you haven't seen them in years...and they must have forgotten about you!
