A "Mac" is an Apple Macintosh computer:

The new systems (Intel CoreDuo) can run BOTH Apple and Windows operating systems.

A "PC" is the term used for "Personal Computers" running Microsoft Windows:

I have Windoze at work and Macs at home
A laptop at work is a Dell that had the hard drive die less than a year after purchase - Our Dell desktops have been more reliable (so far)...

CompUSA http://www.compusa.com/
carries both Apple and Windows systems -- I'd suggest going to take a test drive and talking to some people at the store. Unfortunately, not too many of the sales staff really know both systems, so keep asking around. Also talk to other photographers and find out what they have (and what they wish they had).

For Photos, the Mac is probably your best option - it comes with iPhoto and Adobe PhotoShop is pretty much native to Macs. It also can run a large variety of software: http://www.apple.com/macosx/applications/; http://www.apple.com/software/
There are two MacBook options - MacBook and MacBook Pro:

A mac is a computer running Mac OS 10 sold by apple computer. The products are generally expensive... but they are better and are more reliable... ive had one for 6 years that still hasnt crashed...

a pc is a computer running Windows XP or Linux. PC's have a larger market share and have more applications than Macs but they are very unstable and extremely vulnerable to viruses, looking from a mac standpoint. You cannot install Mac OS 10 on pcs.

I would reccomend a mac to anyone because they are stable for extensive use and are highly superior to windows, and if needed you can install windows XP on macs... legally.

Dont use dell whatsoever.... my family switched to macs because of them, their service is horrible and they would not replace a brand new PC that was dead on arrival (it was ordered direct from dell too).

Mac and PC (personal computer) are two different monsters. If you do not know the difference and why you would want one versus the other go with a PC.
Dell is a good brand to go with, reliable, good support and deals.
