By viewing others in an end-of-the-world struggle it makes people feel as if they've survived the disaster.

Because everyone knows that the end of the world is here. They want to see what it will be like when it happens, but no one can ever know or be prepared for when it happens. It can also get everyone more used to the idea that it is gonna happen. It will be so much worse then anyone can ever predict in a movie. And it is good entertainment. And it also takes peoples minds off todays problems. To see others having things worser then they are having.

1. We want to believe that the human spirit can overcome anything.
2. We are preoccupied and scared of our own deaths.
3. They have a lot of action.
4. We secretly fear it could happen.
5. They generally have ordinary people as hero's, and we all believe deep down inside that we could be that hero.... or at least wish we could be that hero.

Because everyone wants to see what it would be like, question what they would do, get a glimpse into what the future landscape might end up as.

It's our fascination to wonder if we could be as heroic or 'lucky'
as those in the films.
We also want to learn what to do and what not to do if ever faced with those situations ourselves.
