The Confederate Army got cut off from its supply line during the latter stages of the war...actually, in the beginning, they were winning until General Ulysses S. Grant, my ancestor, took over and changed it to a "war of attrition"...the Rebels, outnumbered and outgunned, succumbed to the master strategist!

They were on the side of prejudice. At the time slavery was legal, just as the US govt sanctioned discrimination was legal until the mid 60's
Hatred is what it is. They were on the wrong side destined sure as Nazism, Communism, and now terrorism to fail.

They couldn't manufacture goods. Their entire economy was based on trade with the North and with Europe and when the ports were blockaded they couldn't sell their cotton nor could they import food and, more importantly, weapons and ammunition.

The fact is that the northern states had all the industry. Such as processing steel and other metals. The south only had cotton and other crops.
