Hi everyone!

I'm a female and have 2 tattoos, one on my lower back (which can be easily covered) and one on the top of my left foot going up onto the front of my ankle (that can be covered if I'm wearing certain shoes or pants). The one on my foot is nothing vulgar or offensive, it's very colorful and feminine.

My question is this: I am almost finished with my second college degree and am about to enter the "corporate" work world. I was wondering if you all think it's necessary to let my employer know that I have a tattoo that can be visible if I wear a skirt or dress, for professional reasons?

Thanks for your help!! :)

Do not stress about these tattoos! Sounds like they can be well hidden if need be. Congrats on your second college degree!

No...you don't need to let them know. You can if it will ease your mind but it is not necesary. Some places may require you to cover it but for the most part it shouldn't be a problem. I wouldn't mention it in an interview or anything. The tattoo has nothing to do with your job performance. They should let you know the dress code before your first day. If it mentions nothing of tattoos or that only vulgar tattos must be covered...show that baby off.

Don't make it a point to let them know you have tattoos. They may say something to you about their policies on tattoos and then you can take it from there. I have heard that if you use an orange foundation on the tattoo and finish covering by applying a light powder, nobody will be the wiser. Practice covering it and find what you feel are the best results. That way if you have to cover then you will be ready.

It isn't necessary to let them know. If you think it will be a problem you should always make an effort to keep it covered. I have a tattoo on my right foot and no one I work with has ever seen it. I wear shoes that do not allow it to be shown.

You don't need to let your employer know about your tattooes unless they ask. Just as long as you hind them (which you can easily do), then don't worry about it. Besides, you can't get fired for having a tattoo. You just have to be professional about it and know what clothes are appropriate to wear especially when you're meeting a client. Good luck in the future!

I can see your problem. I have 5 tattoos. The one on my ankle is my problem. I am going to be an elementary school teacher and I have often regretted my choices. But I think society is changing to look more at actual work quality than something so minute as body modifications.

In the corporate world, I have had several supervisors that have had many tattoo's. I myself am a female with several as well. It has never been a problem for me. On days that I am meeting new client for the first time, I might be a bit more conservative in my attire for the day...

From what I've experienced and from what others have told me, there's nothing wrong with your tattoo. No need to tell you boss/manager or whoever. Keep them covered at all times (try make up even!) and let your work and higher education, not body art, speak for you.

I am am male and I have 7 tattoos, and my belief is that you got the body art because t is a part of you, like your soul. You should not be judged by your body art, it should be by your knowledge and experience. If your prospective employer has a problem with your body art, then they are violating you as a person i.e. sex, religion, race. You drive on............be proud of your expression! I am.

It just depends who you are working for. Some people will not like this and may not give you a job because of it. But others will not care one bit. So I wouldn't say anything about it upfront. I would wait until they ask or notice.
