Rain Man with Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise was released in 1988, but it was December.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit was released in late June and surely was still in theaters in July! - It was the second top grossing movie of the year, second to Rain Man

Coming to America (Eddie Murphy) was released Jun 29th - 3rd top grosser
Big (Tom Hanks) June 3rd - 4th top grosser
Crocodile Dundee II could have been playing in July. It opened int May - 6th top grosser.

Die Hard (Bruce Willis) opened July 15th and it was 7th on the top gross list
Cocktail (Again with Tom Cruise) July 29th - 8th.

Now I'm wondering what made you interested in this month and year? It sure was a big one for Tom Cruise.

I saw and liked Rain Man and to a lesser degree Cocktail. I liked Roger Rabbit, Coming to America, Big was a favorite of mine.

The rest weren't as appealing. How about you?

The list of films above is really good if you just need films for the whole of 1988 but not all of them were released in July. Rain man for example was released in December

Another film released was;
Monkey Shines - Theatrical release: July 29, 1988

The USA gross was only $5,344,577 though
