A friend of mine knows a girl who commited suicide. The girl didn't like me very much at all, but I was told that I wasn't the reason. I recieved an offline message today from the girl's Yahoo name, supposedly from someone she knows who thinks I'm the reason the girl did it, and they want to chat with me, but they don't want my friend to know about it. Should I worry? Could anything happen to me legally?

The only possible thing I could have done wrong is that I hurt my friend's feelings, and we argued. Would she be so upset that I hurt someone's feelings that she would do such a thing?

Uhm...well if you have reason enough to believe that you did have a part in it, then maybe that is a problem. But why would she kill herself over you? Did you do something to her?

You may feel guilty over the quarrel with the: BUT, keep in mind that people who kill themselves have bigger problems than an argument with someone they hardly know. They needed professional help and her friends were in a better position to know that than you.
No way are you legally responsible for her death. If this was an internet friendship, what would you be guilty of, Death By Chat Room?

Sounds like a young people creating their own drama out of a very sad event. Have anyone of you ever actually met any of them?

Dear worried,
Depending on what was done to this girl and if you had anything do with it. It said that by law if you push a person to commit suicide you are liable for man slaughter. If you know for a fact that you had nothing to do with this girl's suicide you have nothing to worry about. If by any chance you are the reason I would advise you to consult a lawyer or at least a legal aid for answers

First things first- don't continue chatting with whoever the person is that IMed you. Most of the time, people who commit suicide are selfish and want the people around them to feel guilty. So, stop worrying about this. It was nobody's fault... she ended her life this way.

It was the girl's own decision (misguided as she may have been) to take her own life. It sounds like someone is just trying to mess with you and make you feel bad. I would put that screen name on ignore, and try to avoid the whole situation. Whether or not you were the reason she did it doesn't matter, you would not get in any legal trouble.

The only person who can tell you the reason is her and she is no more...Dont ponder on it...you might be worrying about something that had nothing to do with you...Dont listen to what people say...Nothing can happen to you legally coz she killed herself..u didnt...we all go through bad times but its no reason to take our lives and no one else should be blamed...Whoever these people are...dont chat to them...whats done is done...u cannot change the past..

I don't think anything could happen to you legally - as long as you weren't a part of her suicide (i.e. you taunted her to do it or whatever). Talking to someone online isn't a crime - but why does this person want to speak with you and keep it from your friend? There is no reason to be secretive if nothing shady is going on, so just be wary of what this person says to you and what you say back to them.

Suside doen't just happen. There is a great deal of hurt and internal pain that builds up inside of the person.
You are NOT the reason for it. Please don't spend the rest of your life being worried about it.

I would totally ignore anyone who wants to chat online with you.
It ishard, but just don't answer. Maybe change your inyrtnry identy.
Go on with your life.

Nothing could happen to you legally. You weren't there walking her through the steps telling her how to commit suicide and telling her that she should do it. It's not your fault. Suicide is no ones fault but the person who committed it. Even though you may have hurt them, they could have still made the choice to live.

You are NOT the reason. People commit suicide because of issues INSIDE themselves. It is a personal act based on personal feelings and choices, and you are not the cause. Ignore this person and talk to a counselor so that you can grieve, move on, and not carry around guilt that does not belong to you.

Suicide goes way deeper than just having feelings hurt. I believe this girl was very sick and needed intervention. It' not your fault. Stay away from the offline message, it's just someone trying to hurt you.
