Try showsteers.com and primetimeagrimarketing.com and theshowbox.com . The Primetime and Showbox websites are the people who produce a magazine with all the sales though out the country. If you are taking it through FFA or 4-H you may want to ask your adviser for advice on good breeders in your area. The sky is the limit as far as how much you can spend, but consider the fact that you are taking it to county fair and not state. You may also want to join a show circuit. Not sure what state Kern County is in, but many states have a youth (in Ohio it is called BEST) program through the Cattlemen's Association that holds several shows.
You also need to decide if you want to show a purebred or crossbred calf. http://www.ansi.okstate.edu/breeds/cattle/ is a useful sight to look at breeds.

what state are you in? What kind of steer do you want? There are show steer sales in many places. It's hard to give more detailed advice without knowing what state you're in - and if you're looking for Maines or Limi then links to Charolais breeders are no good to you. Try the links below -

Try going to www.agriculture.online - there's a classified section there.
Also try www.showcattle.com - *that* is an online game but their advertisers and some of the players show and raise show stock in real life. I've been on there for a couple years and there's some good people. There's club calf breeders I know for sure in Ohio and Texas - I'm sure others too but those come off the top of my head.

You can go to a cattle auction. Search for it on google or other search engines, in your area.
Then try learning how to spell.
