I'm sorry that you're not feeling well, and I hope that it isn't anything really serious.
I would agree that it might be strep throat, but it also sounds rather like mumps. If you feel both sides of your throat, just under your jaw, and the side that hurts feels much more swollen, it's an indicator that your lymph nodes have probably swollen up, which happens when your body is trying to fight off an infection. If you have any way to check your temperature you should do that, too.
If you have health insurance, definitely go to the doctor. If you don't have health insurance, I would check all of your symptoms on the WebMD website below, and that will give you an indication of what an appropriate response should be. Remember, though, if you've been having these symptoms for a few days, if WebMD says to watch and wait for a couple of days, that time is already pretty much up. If you've tried all of the home remedies suggested and still have no relief, go to the doctor. It doesn't sound like an ER sort of visit would be required, unless you begin having trouble breathing, your temperature is over 103, you begin to lose your hearing, or you begin to experience pain that you would classify as an 8 or above on a scale of 1 to 10. If you don't have health insurance, remember that a simple doctor's visit is MUCH cheaper than a hospital stay. Also, you may want to check and see if there is a free clinic available nearby. If you are a college student, most colleges have nurse services available for no fee, even for students that live off-campus.
Good luck and feel better soon!

Sounds like either strep throat or tonsilitis. Either can be cured easily with antibiotics. Get to a doctor but it doesn't have to the hospital.

It could be a strep infection or mononuleosis (kissing disease). Most infections, if not cleared up, can spread to other parts of the body and cause you to be even sicker. You really don't want to go to the doctor? Is because you are afraid of them, or do you have something to hide. Just go to the doctor. It's always better to be safe than sorry. Besides, anything that he/she finds is confidential.

Maybe you burnt your throat. I've had times like that, too. Were you coughing alot, before this problem occured? Too much coughing will cause it. Ok, get yourself to a drug store, and buy a bag of herbal cough drops, such as Ricola. Maybe some throat medicine, too. Then if the prob continues, see a doc.

Could be a throat or ear infection. If you don't have a doctor, go to an urgent care center. Try gargling with warm salt water. If that doesn't help, definitely go to an urgent care center.

Go to a doctor. It doesn't have to be at the hospital. Or you can just let your throat rot.

Just check w/ the doctor that has happened to me before too. It's painful I know, try drinking tea (I hate it but w/e) and don't use your voice more than you have to. And eat soup and drink a lot of liquid, stuff that goes down easily.

Go to a clinic instead of the hospital, it will be a lot cheaper. You could have strep which can be serious if left untreated.
