Most garbage dumps don't make much fuel. Most fuel that is made in garbage dumps is not collected, and what isn't absorbed in the earth is gassed off into the atmosphere.

There are a few places where it pays to collect the fuel gas and use it nearby. I know of a chemical plant in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma that is so close to a dump that they are able to buy cheap fuel gas from the dump.
