From what the government told us, it was to keep Iraq from attaining WMD's, then when we couldn't find tons of them like we thought we would, then it just split into many other reasons such as there were links to Al Qaida, to promote democracy to Iraq. Of course one reason that makes sense is that fact Saddam tried assassinating Bushs father. We'll never know the true reason either because i personally think we should've put all our effort into securing Afghanistans government and trying to capturing Osama.....the whole reason we're in this war. There wouldn't be an Al Qaida of Iraq, and more dangerous people emerging from that group.
Nothing good came from this war in my opinion because our credability has went way down and getting future support from other nations will be difficult.
However this conflict has exposed the Oil for Food scandle within the UN. But i guess a bunch of greedy nations is better than thousands of lost lives.

An oil field was discovered in China. We made a deal with China to refine it intrade for a part of it. They were going to run a pipeline through Afghanistan to get the crude oil to the sea. We went to war against the Taliban because they wouldn't let us run a pipeline. In the meantime, China changed it's mind because more Chinese people have cars. So now we fight in the Iraq to have an OPEC nation on our side. Since even the other Middle East countries don't care for Saddam Heusein, it was the easiest county to attack without people throwing a fit over sovereign rights.

After the Gulf War, Bill Clinton accumulated 8 years of intelligence, a lot which was classified. Many of the career public servants in government during Clinton were in government during 9/11. Bush used Clinton's intelligence and listened to the career public servants to make the case for war. DON'T BLAME BUSH - BLAME CLINTON.
