Then you can decide whether to end them or not...

Nothing like good old control-alt-delete, do all 3 at the same time,
you'll see a list of all the b/s your computer is doing. Part of the problem could be too many open applications, got the computer too busy, too many fast mouse clicks for the amount of ram you have. (If it gets bad enough, start running some virus clean up software like McAfee, Ad Aware stops data mining and is free.)
You'll see a list, shut them down one by one with the mouse click.
Your computer should run just fine after you do this, just don't open so much stuff at once.
Then go to Start, Run, (type) msconfig on the command line, hit enter Click on the Start Up Tab, Uncheck everything but your antivirus program (there will be quite a few) click Apply, then click Close, Click Restart, then when it does, check the box, Don't show me this again, Do this about once a month or whenever your computer gets sluggish...
Good luck

Right click on your tool bar and it will open a menu, select TASK MANAGER from that menu and it will open another window with all the tasks that are running then highlight and select end task.
A three fingered salute will accomplish the same thing, (control, ALT, delete)
They are tasks that you have started and are running in the background.

most tasks are generated by the computer to enable effective use of all its facilities eg. touchpad...for laptop touchpad, explorer for screen interaction eg icons, wallpaper...and there are also user generated tasks (these are the ones you can messa round with if you dont need).

you should check out microsoft's web site and search for most of those programs you are asking about... most are part of windows and are needed... some are probably the drivers for your hardware like your mouse... or keyboard, etc. Unless you KNOW that it is not needed... it can be very dangerous to stop something from running.
