I am sorry you are getting so many responses which include people's opinions on whether or not your baby should be watching T.V. That's not what you asked.
When my baby was young, his favorite was Baby Neptune. The package says that it's for 9-month-olds but he watched it much earlier. The Mozart, Bach, and Beethoven ones are good too. They are each a little over 20 minutes long and are perfect for allowing your baby some down time and you a chance to get a few things done.
You mentioned in your question that you aren't real into having your child watch TV so young. I think your plan to have a tool available to give you and your baby 20 minutes of time to yourselves is completely reasonable. TV in moderation is FINE, so ignore all the negative responses you've gotten and continue being the good mommy that you are.

It's really easy to say the AAP recommends no tv, but the reality is that your child is going to be exposed to tv in one form or another anyway eventually, so why not make it a positive experience. We have Baby Mozart, Baby Galileo, Neighborhood Animals, Numbers Nursery, Baby MacDonald, Baby Neptune, and 1 or 2 others. My almost 4 year old still asks to watch them, and has been watching them since she was about 2 months old. She goes through phases, where she really likes to watch the same one over and over for a few weeks, and then she doesn't want to watch it at all and picks a different one instead. If it's within your budget I definitely recommend getting one of their gift packs that includes several videos. My mom has also found some at her public library. Check yours out, if they don't have them put in a request, and then you could try them out for free before you make a purchase.

I am a pediatric nurse and I learned about Baby Einstein videos through our Child Life program. They use them with the babies in our rehab department. They are great! My favorites are the ones that introduce different languages. As long as TV time is only a short time a day, I don't see the harm in it. Curious if the negative responders have TV and if they watch it...

There are SO many reasons to keep your child from watching TV. It really makes a difference when children are not exposed to television. I know you are looking for something to entertain your son so you dont have to be right with him every second of every day but videos are not the way to go.
Instead of listing the reasons you dont want your son propped up in front of the TV, I will tell you what your son could be doing instead. (If you want the reasons, email me and I'll be happy to let you know.) The best thing that I have used with infants is some type of gymini mat. Even little ones as young as your son love to just lay there and look at the figures hanging above them. Eventually they start to try to get them and chew on them or play with them.
I am currently a nanny for a 19 month old and she used to lay on her mat for an hour at a time. I got more done than I ever imagined!
Also, having some kind of calm music or children's music on helps greatly! I have found that when I have soft classical music on (not the crazy stuff) kids are more calm and pleasant.

My baby hated them and I don't blame her, they are really boring. The Little Einsteins are a lot more entertaining than the Baby Einsteins. Also there is this DVD by "They Might Be Giants" that teaches the ABCs.....she LOVED it at that age.

People are good for babies. DVDs are not. The American Academy of Pediatrics states that babies under age 2 should not watch *any* television ever.
Remember that Einstein *didn't* watch Baby Einstein.

Oh my gosh...I have the entire set! No, I don't plop my daughter down in front of the TV and have the TV entertain her, but when I need to do a few things, or she get irritable, it really helps.
Any of the videos for ages 0 - 3 would be great. My personal favorite, as well as my daughter's, is Baby Mozart.

I wouldn't put a baby in front of the tv at 2 months. There should be enough time when the baby is asleep to do things around the house. When he gets a little older I might try for very short periods of time, like one person said, maybe long enough to eat dinner. The trouble is it becomes real easy to plop them down in front of the tv more and more.

let me just say that the American Pediatric Association recommends no hours of television per day to children under 2. you should really look into that before you stick your child in front of a tv so you can get things done. why do you think so many kids are diagnosed with ADD and ADHD nowadays?
