Because it's how God made us. You certainly go around all prideful because you're straight - it's evident in your anti-gay hatred and discrimination.
People who walk around saying "love the sinner, hate the sin" are hypocrites who obviously hate both.
Maybe if you didn't flaunt your 'lifestyle' everywhere, and try and recruit people in churches, schools, scouting, athletics, etc. we wouldn't need parades just to get the word out that being gay is great, too.
Perhaps you should consider WWJD for a change.

probable should have a parade for dwarfs.
that is not so imposing
and if your religious beliefs make you oppressed,
why don't you change them
,it is supposed to uplift you and give you a vague silly smile ,being full of love and goodwill and all that ,
if it doesn't you must be in the wrong religion
maybe we need a parade for oppressed disillusioned religious people ,it should be well attended.
so what the hell(oops) become a Pagan ,
worship the Sun for its life giving rays and be thankfull to Gaia for giving all of the life that comes from her all that it needs .
and join our Parade

Try to keep in mind that Gay people are the objects of violence, hatred, scorn, prejudice & intollerance. For so long (and to a lesser extent, still) gay people have had to hide what & who they were to fit into society. Gay pride is simply about not being ashamed of being gay. They're simply born that way, and they shouldn't have to be fightened, ashamed or second class citizens! It's really that simple.
And DO NOT TRY TO TELL ME YOU'RE OPPRESSED BECAUSE OF YOUR RELIGOUS BELIEFS. I'm quite sick of Christians saying they're oppressed. That is simply the most absurd thing I've ever heard. Christians aren't the least bit oppressed!

I guess they've been persecuted for so long, they are happy to be able to show the world that they're not afraid anymore, and they are trying to show us that they are not monsters, just folks.
As for pointless parades, how about "Pet Parades" or "Sports Parades" or "Valentine's Day Parades"? They all sound pretty silly to me.

If you were shunned, not allowed to work, beaten until you almost died, wouldn't you want to celebrate when the world finally recognizes that you are a person just like any one else?
You're not oppressed for your religious beliefs. You react too strongly to what people say about your religion. Just relax and be yourself.
If you want to march down the street with a band and a pony, be my guest.

Happy people are proud to be happy... oh, wait, you mean "gay", oh, well, I don't know about that one.... j/k.
I would imagine it has something to do with being different on the inside for so long. The feelings of "not belonging", of not being "normal", are probably pretty overwhelming. When one comes to terms with who they are then I would imagine they would want to shout it from the rooftops. Besides, someone who feels the same might hear them and then they could get it on.... (insert Barry White music here). ;)

For the same reason that blacks and women held parades: to make people aware that they are people and deserve equal treatment and equal rights in _everything_, not just the things that are convienient for the majority. Our future generations will look back in disbelief on this issue, just like we look back in horror on slavery, segregation, and sexism

I dont know when you think about it thats not a proud thing to be about it. Do u remember the old times when someone was gay? They were ashamed of it and kept it a secret. But now....... I mean why? Its very disturbing to know someone can turn gay knowing it is wrong. That is my opinion about it and I know I am not the only one that feels that way.

That's the way they deal with the oppression they feel from society today. Plus, it seems to be amusing when people react in-fear of them because they are gay even though they are human beings too. To each |His/Her own!!!
