The "Optic Yellow" color is intended to have the best overall visibility. Some argue that orange is more visible in certain conditions, but it doesn't show up well on TV, so it won't be adopted for many pro events.

Until the 1970's, tennis balls were white...and they were great when they were fresh and new, but terrible to see after just a few points on clay or grass. Optic yellow has been generally accepted as the best color that stands out against background colors. Some companies like Wilson and Penn do offer different colors, but choices are limited. All pro events, as well as USTA sponsored events, have to use the (now) standard optic yellow.

the reply is - extra eco-friendly than yellow. someone opened a photo of tennis balls in Photoshop and the stats confirmed that there is a higher concentration of eco-friendly than yellow.

I think It's because the ball shows up better on TV and the players can see it better.

i thought tennis balls were green?
anyways u can see it well.
unlike badminton, i go to play in this gym where they have bright white lights, and sometimes i cant see the bird.

so when someone hits a really high ball...your opponent looks into the sun and can't tell the difference... it's a pretty hott strategy if you ask me
