It might be Maria Esther de Capovilla from Ecuador, but I'm not sure if that is still correct.

"Born on Sept. 14, 1889, the same year as Charlie Chaplin and Adolf Hitler, Capovilla was married the year the United States entered World War I — 1917 — and widowed in 1949.

"We see the condition she is in, and what is admirable is not only that she reached this age, but that she got here in this shape, in very good health," Capovilla's daughter, Irma, told an Associated Press reporter at the home where her mother lives in this coastal city.

Seated on a sofa and waving a fan with a slender, steady hand in the tropical heat, Capovilla seemed bemused by the presence of strangers. Irma, 79, leaned close to her mother's ear, and speaking in a loud voice, told her she was famous because she was the world's oldest person.

Capovilla shook her head and smiled.

Her calm disposition may be the secret to her longevity, her daughter said.

"She always had a very tranquil character," Irma said. "She does not get upset by anything. She takes things very calmly and she has been that way her whole life." "

At 100 years old, she became bedridden and so weakened from a stomach ailment that a priest administered last rites. But Maria Esther de Capovilla recovered, and 16 years later she has become the oldest person on Earth, according to Guinness World Records.

I heard on the news the other day that the oldest man in the world had just celebrated his 110th birthday. However, there could be older people who are unknown. I heard of one woman. I believe she was of Carribean origin, who said she had 3 good meals a day and always had half a pint of ale with every meal. She lived well over 100.

I don't know who is currently the oldest recorded person, but I believe that they live in a mountain region in china (saw a program on it a while ago).

The secret of living a long life is to not stop breathing, even if someone asks you very politely.

There is two organizations that track longest leaving people and they don't have any proof of anybody leaving longer than 115 there are claims but they can't be proven. Their studies point mostly to genetics. but one of the major factors that shorten our life is stress, alcohol and cigarettes. Eating habbits and exercise had no major effects, but none of the people over 100 have ever been overweight.

i don't know the oldest but im guessing their secret is what they eat.....i've heard that people who live in china and france live to an old age because of the way they eat. they, for the most part, eat all fresh foods, unlike us americans who eat tons of processed foods, which are extremely unhealthy for us. also in asia they drink a lot of green tea which is aparently great for you as well.

I think Miss Jane Pitman. She lived to be 115.

I think lots of centurinariuns (living to be 100 years or more) live that long due to practicing religion to God's favor and taking real good of their health.

I think really slow people live for long, like in animals, cheetahs don't live for long, whereas turtles/tortoises live for a very long time, because their heart doesn't beat as quickly.
