It makes me feel disgusted! Its not only women in America, its men and children that are overweight too! Thankfully I am a size 3 so it doesn't affect me personally but just the thought that America is supposed to be the greatest country and blah, blah, blah yet we are the most overweight country in the WORLD!! There simply needs to be an intervention or something from the government to fix this problem. Why is there a need for a Fast Food joint on every corner?! I say we cut the amount of fast food joints in half, raise the prices of unhealthy food and within a couple years we would see a big difference in people's sizes. Sorry this turned into a rant, but it does make me mad!

Since the average adult height for women in the US is just over 5' 3", a weight of 150 lbs. would yield most females a size 16 dress size. A younger women may wear a smaller size at the same height and weight, due to a greater muscle-to-fat ratio. But since the "average" woman in the US is no longer in her teens or twenties, a size 16 sounds about accurate. Not necessarily healthy, but accurate all the same.
When will these stats ever be acknowledged or reflected in the media? Probably never.

I've heard that the average dress size is a size sixteen, but I don't think that the average weight for an American woman wearing a size sixteen is 150 lbs. I'm 5'9 (taller than average), 145 lbs (average American weight?), and wear a size eight or ten. I think that today's sizes are way off.
How does this make me feel? In one way I feel sad because everyone is getting so big. In another way I feel good that I'm still not considered fat to most people even though I need to lose five pounds.

well it really depends on how tall the average woman is, if she is only 5 ft (and i do believe that is below average) then thats probally NOT healthy. If the woman is taller, than it makes sense she weighs more. You didnt give me enough information to make a conclusion. I do think that the obesity in our country is on the larger percentile, but truthfully, its up to them on how big they want (unless of course it is a disorder or disease etc). But i do think people should atleast TRY to stay in the healthy weight zone, because trutfully, sad as it is, the world (atleast america) does judge people on looks and as you can tell we have set stereotypes of all kinds blondes being dumb, ditzy easy (not true im blonde), fat people being lazy (my parents were overweight and they are some of the hardest working people i know) hispanics stealing, jews being cheap etc (no i dont believe in any of these). they are stereotypes that do actually help decide how people view you, so in some cases you probally should by atleast an average weight.
truthfully, an average of women mean nothing to me, because im only 14, and i know im a healthy weight ( im size 0), and why should a truthful average bother me?

I don't believe this to be true...I am thirty eight years old and delivered an almost ten pound baby boy. He was perfectly healthy and I went right back to my true size 6! I have wanted to gain weight to become curvier...I am a size 7 now and love my body for the most part. C cup and would prefer being a D! Most of my friends are my same size as well!

I don't care. That's not my dress size and I'm 14 and weigh 140 lbs. I don't care about statistics. My dress size is like a 8! And that's sometimes too big!

Doesn't make me feel anything. Why should it? Who cares except some anorexic movie stars and the silly girls and women who follow their lives?
