I see there are hundereds of questions here on Yahoo Answers asking where to download free music. Last I checked, downloading music over the net, that you have not paid for is illegal.

I am not really interested in a "membership" and even question the legality of that. What I am interested in is a reputable site where I can pay for each song I download and there is no minimum commitment. I just want to download a song or two, once in a while, and pay for the download.

Suggestions?

See... I glanced at Napster and it looked like it was by subscription. Guess I will have to look closer.

I know I can go buy the CD! Geez, the idea is to just get 1 song, not the whole CD. It's a convenience thing!

Definitely Napster. You can pay 99 cents a song for permanent download, or you can subscribe monthly for roughly $15, have access to their entire library of music (virtually endless), and download anything to your compatible MP3 player at no extra charge. Go Napster buddy!

Napster is still up for about 99 cents a song. My brother used it, and it is easy. Go to Best Buy and you can buy pre paid cards with a verification code to easily download music.

There is always Napster. It is legal, you dont have to pay for a membership, and you only pay 99 cents a song.

I know you said that your not interested in a "membership", but iTunes is the best one that I know of. You don't even have to use a credit card to buy their songs... you can buy "iTunes Cards" at department stores that have a code on them that you enter into the Music Store, which will then give you credit. For more info, visit here: www.apple.com/itunes

Well iTunes is pretty good, but unless you have an iPod it's not that convinient. But Yahoo! Music is good too, and legal. All you do is buy the song on it, or listen to it for free.
Good Luck ;)

There's iTunes which is a pretty good site if you have an iPod. Another site that's technically legal is http://www.allofmp3.com/ based in Russia. Really cheap prices for mp3 downloads.

LimeWire. You don't have to pay at all. Totally legal.
