Check in the Auction section of the papers near where you live.
Gov. and police/sherrif auctions are sometimes advertized on TV if the event is large enough. Keep your eyes peeled ond happy hunting!

If you are referring to housing and such, an awesome place to start is two places:

Housing: www.hud.gov, go to buying a HUD home, there are link s to several other government sites

Other items: Nationally, try firstgov.gov, the government web portal. It is the best for questions like this. You can type in auctions in the search feature. Better, if you don't find what you need, you can ask a question and either get help from the FAQs or from a real person via e-mail.

If you know that you are buying one of these homes, I would definitely get my financing in order. Most auctions, public and private set a "closing date" that you must finalize your purchase on or before. That means if you are buying a house, find a reputable lender, get pre-approved (that means the lender should have asked for and seen your income documents, credit history, bank statement, dealt with credit approval issues) so that basically the house is the only issue left to deal with. I have eight years lending experience and know that some of these houses need considerable work, so you need to look for a loan that would let you roll in the cost of improvements, unless you have the money upfront to make a hefty down payment. Good luck with your search.

Government Vehicle auctions are held periodically in the bigger cities. Go on the web and check your local newspaper website, under auctions. The yellow pages has government listings that you can call, also.
Good luck.

Local paper. I believe government agencies are required by law to publish information regarding public auctions. Call city hall and ask them if they publish the information, and if so, where at.
