I have a 1999 chevy tahoe with front and rear A/C. I am not getting any air at all from the front vents but all other vents are blowing air just fine & strong (floor, defrost, combo, etc). When A/C is on, the air is cool in the front but colder in the rear. All the switches/controls seem to be working ok (temp control, direction flow, blower/fan control). When I switch from hot to cold (or vice versa), the actuator door is opening and closing as it should. I took it to an a/c mechanic (friend) and he checked the suction on the vacuum and inspected the hoses and it's all good. What could possibly be the problem? Is there another actuator door in there somewhere that I should be looking for? The book doesn't help much or at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated because it be hot over here. =)

If you look under the dash right of the gas pedal their is a box with electric wires to it, and two little arms that control your air flow (where it goes) this part is not working properly. You can manually move one of the arms, and you will see that the air moves up and onto your windsheild.

You should have one door for the Heater or AC Coil - and it sounds like you have checked that one and it is working - Another for Fresh Air or Recurculate and there should be another vent door that is 'positional' setting 1, 2, 3, for floor face defrost - or more if you have 1/2 settings. --- on some cars / trucks, this is more than just one door IE: one door for each setting (and those are a pain).

It sounds like that door is either not getting vacuume or it is 'stuck' (sometimes things from the dash fall down in there and stick the door) -

Actuate the door with your hand, don't force it too hard you can break the acuator or the door - if it moves without a lot of force then start looking at the vacuume to the actuator - also make sure the actuator will "Hold" its position (move it to any spot, lick your finger (to make a good seal) and put it on the hose connection to see if it will hold.)
--Oh, so yes, there is another door you need to be looking for --

older Chevrolet's also use vacuum from the engine to engage the 4x4 newer Chevy's like your Tahoe may do the same thing you may have a leak with a old vacuum line you could call your dealership and ask if your Tahoe uses a vacuum to engage the 4x4 they should tell you free of charge but be careful they will try and dupe you into bringing it in by saying that it could be anything.

All the vents have hoses going to them. Make sure the ones going to the front vents are still connected and do not have any kinks in them. They look a lot like vent hoses for a dryer and can disconnect.

If everything else is working, it's very like a mode door that's not working to direct the air properly.

You probably have a bad vacuum switch... the part that your knob attaches to. If it does indeed have good vacuum to it, then it is bad. The ac should be cooler in the back, kinda the way it works.
