is it coming from the tower? sounds like your hard drive is ready to die. have you cleaned up the drives lately? and have you defraged the drives lately? try doing those two things first, and if it keeps burping, just try to get as much use out of it until she boots up no more. good luck.

if you have a cell phone close to your computer sometimes it will burp like that in which case move your cell further away from your computer.

Disable sound?
Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Sounds & Audio devices
Sounds --> Sound scheme = No sounds.
