If I am understanding you correctly, you child is a baby, so trying to reason with her won't exactly work. Try singing a silly song about brushing teeth - it doesn't have to be a real song, you can make it up. I let my daughter pick out her toothbrush at the store or you can try to find one with a favorite character on it like Elmo or something. Let her "help" brush her teeth- that might make it less of a fight. GIve a try each night and if it doesn't happen that well one night, just know you stuck with the routine and tried to brush her teeth. As she gets older, it will be easier. Until then, just try each night - there could be something else going on with your baby - like getting another tooth or a cold or something that she doesn't want her mouth touched right now. But keep trying and it will get better. Good luck!

Well, first off, the problem could be deeper, I mean she could have a really bad cavity that is hurting, or something else physically in her mouth. If you take her to the dentist, you can definately get that solved first and foremost.
Secondly, Mentally, its like sales, lol... You need to arose her in eager want, you need to find her weakness and use it, for example, if she likes cartoons, maybe you can find a dvd from your dentist or online, of a cartoon brushinig their teeth. --- Its kind of hard for me to think on this one, not sure how old she is...You could also get a doll that has some teeth, act it out with a real brush with her, Tell her that you and your husband brush your teeth everynight, make it a family affair, (kids love to copy parents) never talking about what you want, let her hold the toothbrush, show her how you brush your teeth, maybe she'll follow... Also, make sure she eats at least an apple a day, (if she can?) or fresh fresh home made apple sauce, its a very good natural way of "brushing the teeth" it also kills like 90% of bacteria or so.

My girls have both gone through phases like that. The best thing you can do is make it fun and don't let it turn into a battle.
Some ideas...
1. Get a cute toothbrush.
2. Try some baby toothpaste (without fluoride). She may like the taste and want to keep brushing.
3. Make a silly game out of asking her to say "eeee" and "aaahhh" to show you her teeth.
4. Brush your teeth at the same time and let her try to brush her own. Then, jump in and help her a bit.
5. Have someone else brush their teeth while you brush hers.

My son is two and i think they go through these stages as they are growing up - I brush my sons teeth in the bath (he has two a day) and sing songs like "This is the way we brush your teeth, brush your teeth, brush your teeth, this is the way we brush your teeth early in the morning/evening". If your child has a favourite song try that song also. It may help if you brush your teeth when the baby can see. Good luck and try not to worry too much if you make a big deal out of it the problem will last longer!

I can't imagine trying to scare a baby into brushing her teeth! That is awful. The ideas about playing a game are good. If it gets to be a real problem, you might have to take away a privilege until she allows you to brush them or will brush them herself. Does it hurt- maybe her gums? Does she dislike the taste of the toothpaste? There are lots of them made for children.

I got the things that the baby can bite on that clean up to like 10 teeth at a time and all they have to do is bite it (available at walmart or target) we also tried the dental wipes to clean the teeth...WE also tried making it into a game. We found that if we mixed it up a little she didn't quite know what to expect...(my daughter loves the toothbrushes that have the batteries and spin around) hope that something works for you.good luck

You need to make it fun for her. I know this may sound gross, but can she do it in the tub? Can she brush your teeth? Brush her babies teeth? Make up a silly song while brushing her teeth, something she can learn when she gets older.

Show her pictures of people who didn't brush their teeth. Like real nasty ones and say that'll be her teeth if she doesn't brush. That could work

my daughter is 10 months old and she just recently started doing the same thing. what kind of tooth brush are you using, are you using one that looks like a regular tooth brush, or the one that fits over your finger? whatever one you are using try to use the other kind, maybe she will accept that more. ive found that it is easier to use the one that fits over your finger. good luck.

Try to let her hold the tooth brush, and you can like "help" her, make her feel what a wonderful job she is doing.
