The Red Hat Society is a nationally recognized organization with chapters in every state. It came from a poem a woman wrote who said that when she was old she would wear purple with a red hat. In other words, she was going to do what she wanted and didn't give a rat's *** what people (like you) thought of her. You can become a Red Hatter at 50 and a Pink Hatter at 40. It's just a way to have fun. They have lunches, dinners, shopping getaways, pj parties, etc. They have a hierarchy with the Queen at the top. I don't belong but have been to some of the events. They're a lot of fun. Don't be too critical of us old fruitcakes. You'll be one one day. Maybe then it will be the Magenta Baseball Cappers.

We have them in Nebraska. I think it's just a reason for little old ladies who are bored to have an excuse to get together and socialize.
