you can ask to be moved or before you are seated ask for a table away from small children. As the mother of a 4 yr old I do everything possible to keep my son behaving, if he acts up i take him outside until i can calm him down. I also don't take him to any high-end restaurants. Unfortunately some parents think their kids can do no wrong.

The best way to deal with loud and rude people in a restaurant is to A. Go to the hostess stand and ask to speak to the manager. B. Explain to the manager the nature of the problem and if their is anything that can be done. If the manager tells you that their is nothing they can do, you then tell the manager that you wish to cancel your order and leave the restaurant. However, most of the time the manager will address the problem very quickly. The manager will most likely offer to move your table and comp a dessert, then speak to the offending table and let them know that " other tables" have complained about their behavior. The reason why they say " other tables " is that they assume that if one is offended so are the others. Every restaurant is dependent on repeat business and they don't what too lose your $$$.
I would still call the restaurant and tell them what happened. They need good customers to come back and I am sure they would do something to make the situation right.

I would say go to a less family oriented restaurant if you want peace and quiet. I come from a big family (very big) but my siblings all know how to behave in public. It's all a matter of letting them know that they better or else... Someone (jd) mentioned in the previous answer: "it's so unrealistic to expect a child to sit quiet in a restaurant..." Depending on how old the kid is, over 5yrs they should be able to sit quiet...under that some can others can't. It's best to act mature and just ask to be moved to another table without any rood remarks to make the matter worse...

Ask to be moved. But be ready for the couldn't-care-less parents to say something mean about your moving for everyone around to hear.
Happened to me once. Husband and I were trying to have a nice conversation despite the noise across the aisle when ketchup splattered all over our table. Didn't get any on our clothes. We quietly asked to be moved. The staff was apologetic. The mother of the crew of holy terrors said/shouted something about "people who can't have children" yada yada. But I had to laugh when another guy nearby snapped right back at her. Who'd want kids after seeing yours, lady?

Hmmmmmmmm.... was it the children or the rude parent that ruined your meal? I would ask the manager to A. talk to them
B. Refund my meal C. Comp us for another night
I would also try not to be judgemental.... all people are at different levels of growth.... don't take life so personally.

Go to restaurants that don't allow small children. It's not realistic to expect a child to sit quietly in a restaurant any more than it's realistic to expect parents of a children who is being loud not to get defensive about it.

say something to your server and you could just tell the server you are leaving, maybe that would prevent that from possibly happening again. i would've been rude back to the mom, i can't stand that when i'm out either, you are paying for a nice meal and service so you shouldn't have to move

Talk to the manager of the restaurant. He should ask her to quiet her children.

well i think the best thing to do is nicely ask them to quiet down and if that doesn't workout just ask the waiter to give you another table and if that don't work i would get rude.

I agree with cleverwoman, try going to a place that people wouldn't normally bring children.
