You should watch Darkness Falls, my mom got so scared watching it that she couldn't sleep without a light on. Oh, and I really liked Doom.

I know how lots of people said The Ring was really scary but I thought the special effects were awful. It didn't scare me much even though I was only in the 4th grade(then again I watch a lot of horror films).

Depends. If you want a typical slasher film, then you can check out the Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies. If you actually want to be scared, then Silence of the Lambs and Exorcist (the first one) are great films.
