The best thing to do is to get more RAM memory installed. Some actions can free up small amounts of existing memory, but that usually isn't very significant.

If you cannot buy more memory right now, here is what you can do:

Every program that is started when you boot your computer takes up some of the RAM memory. Often there are programs being srarted that you don't even know about. If you find some that you don't need to have running all the time, you can take them out of the start lists and free up some memory. You can always start them later if you need them.

. Look at the Startup tab in All Programs. If there are any in the list that you don't want running, Delete them from the Startup list. This does not delete or uninstall the programs. It just takes them out of the startup list.

. Look at the list of icons on the bottom right of your screen. Each of these is a running program. If there are any there that you don't need running all the time, get someone who is good with computers to help you run "msconfig". There is another startup list there and you can uncheck the ones you don't want. (But there are also things in this list that do have to run, so you need some expert help to uncheck only the extra ones.)

Good Luck

Here's a couple of ways to recover system ram.

1. Reboot

2. Use task manager to shutdown running processes that you don't need. For example, I shutdown all my security apps before creating and burning DVDs. Of course I kill my Internet connection first and then reload these apps before reconnecting. If, you are unfamiliar with the processes running in task manager this may not be the best approach for you.

3. Upgrade from your existing 512 Mb of ram to 1GB.

Actually a 192MB of free ram is still quite a lot of memory. Are you having problems with a specific application I wonder?

Good luck

You're confusing RAM with ROM. If you mean space on your hard drive - ROM then the only thing you can do is either get a bigger drive or delete some programs but be careful when you delete to do it the right way - using your add/delete program. RAM is about speed and you can go buy an extra stick of that but I think you mean ROM.

Buy some ram and install it. You can't "get more" by doing something on your computer... and even if you do "recover" some, the OS will swallow it up within a few minutes anyhow.
