I've been using my CC to buy stuff on line for at least 6 years. I'm sitting here trying to recall if I've ever had a problem and can't come up with one! Guess I must be an exception.

I don't like to buy stuff off the internet either. I'll maybe order stuff but I can't actually pay for stuff via internet because they all expect you to have credit cards and stuff. I would rather go to the high street and actually see what I'm getting. The net can be decieving. Sometimes I have ordered of the internet and it is often cheaper but that is usually only from companies which have a highstreet branch and let you deal with any problems, etc. at the branch. I wouldn't want to get stuff on the net from a company I might not even be able to get in touch with again.

Some things you have to buy from non-internet shops - especially things that need to fit (clothes). Also, even though I buy some mountain biking kit off the web, I'm now buying more from my local bike shop as they have the space & tools to do all the work I am unable to & by keeping them sweet, I get good deals, great advice and even free servicing/help. They are more exspensive but in the past even they have ordered the wrong part for my bike but it didn;t cost be anything as it was their mistake. Where as, when i mis-order something off the net it not only costs me money but if I can send it back it usually costs at least £5 to post it back.
Conclusion - Generic stuff that I know will fit and I can use/fit it with out help - I get from the web. Anything that I'm not sure about or needs fitting I get from my local shop.

My view is that you at times get much better deals on the internet as sellers avoid large overheads like rent, employees pay, commission etc.. so best is do your research/homework on stuff you wanna buy online and make a note on proces and check it out on the high street (touch and feel) and in case you get a better deal at high street buy it there or come bck home and buy online.. nice and easy and saves you the trouble of carrying all the heavy shopping around as well.

I agree because once you get the item home it probably won't be what you expected. Why not just buy it off the high street like you said, that way you can see it for yourself and if you don't like it you can put it back on the shelf or return it, much easier than returning it if you bought it from the net ;-)
PS: I've seen a handbag on here which i dout you could buy on the highstreet, i have to have it!
(Totally contradict myself!)

I totally agree with you. Although they say online shopping is becoming more secure there are still more dodgy sites out there than legitimate ones. It's more fun wandering through the town centre and finding bargains and stopping for a nice coffee with friends that you bump into! The internet is making us a less sociable breed these days.

I'd rather see what I'm getting and I don't know the laws regarding websites, I'd guess on UK sites it's the same as retail law, but worldwide it might be different, so I prefer to buy on the high street and know my rights.

It really depends on the product and how well I know the product. For clothing, shoes and the like, I really need to try them on first as I can be a difficult fit. For other items I often buy from a web based business.

Why, gee it must be the horror stories you hear of someone who lost 10k on their credit card. Two things, irresponsible lender if that happens,... 120 million users on th WWW , the fraud stats, less than 1%. You stand more chance of being ripped off in oxford street. Welcome to the 21st century
