The shorter the time period, the better. I don't want to starve myself either.

Even though controlling what you put into you diet is an important component of controlling your weight, exercise will greatly speed up the fat loss. I say fat loss because normally when people talk about losing weight they really mean losing body fat. You can weigh more than average and still be skinny and healthy.

If you're interested in quick and effective workouts, keep out tabata intervals. Pretty much it consists of alternating 30 second intervals of hard and fast exercise and controlled breathing while not being active.

For example; you jog in place as fast and as hard as you can for 30 secs straight, and then you stop and begin slowing down your heart rate by slowly exhaling and inhaling. Then 30 secs of more jogging, then 30 secs of cool down. You repeat this pattern for about 4-5 minutes.

The beauty is that you can technically do whatever. 30 seconds on a punching bag, with a jump rope, fast crunches, as long you're going all out. Do this a couple times a week and you'll notice a reduction in body fat, an increase in endurance, and some increase in muscular development.

For a diet, changing when and how you eat rather than what you eat can be a big help. Like little to no carbohydrates in the evening. More Atkins type food for dinner and not eating past 8pm, the carbs will pretty much turn to fat while you sleep because you're not active. Having the carbohydrates, cereal, breads more in the late morning, like brunch time. Instead of eating like 2 or 3 meals where you're stuffed, try eating about 4-5 smaller meals spaced out during the day, this will speed up your metabolism because it will have to work more times during the day.

In addition to this even if you eat a moderately healthy diet and drink plenty of water throughout the day you'll notice improvements pretty quickly.

Each day eat only one thing but as much as you want. It has to be low cal though such as grapes. The idea is to just have one flavour at a time. The more flavours you have the more you gain. I read this in a magazine but I personally wouldn't do it because you need food from each food group daily so if you do this you might want to take at the very least a multi-vitamin each day.

A better way I have found is to eat foods that satiate (fill you up)without a lot of calories - best foods would be soup or vegetarian chili.

Another thing is to drink a glass or two of ice-cold water 30 minutes before each meal.

Be aware that losing weight too quickly means the weight will come back quickly too. You could end up slowing your metabolism too much....your body will think it is starving and will automatically slow its metabolism to preserve fat.

Exercise, as mentioned above is also important.
