that 1) people would stop looking for the candidate that bashes the other and really cares for the country and ethical choices, and that things like Christian or not wouldn't matter but that the most important characteristic would be OPENNESS and EQUALITY for every need in this country to the best of his/her ability?

I understand there would be no way for one person to make everyone happy but I think that one person who understands that there are different people with different needs, regardless of their beliefs, should be what we yearn to have in office since we have so many different, gret people in this country.

- and yes, we can work on the present instead of the future but you can't change a whole person, aka the current president (btw I have no grudge against our current president for anyone who thinks this was a bash question . . I just think we get ourselves set up for closed-mindedness when we look to someone with specific preset criteria.)

American politics (I'm assuming that you're talking about the US) has generally become far too closed-minded for me - and I used to be a Republican!

I think that future candidates for public office will do well to remember their own personal indiscretions before deciding to run.

Remember how everyone loved Kennedy? Well, obviously not quite everyone - but you get my point. He was the last American leader to garner that kind of support. Not in votes, but in public opinion. Maybe it was the whole Camelot thing - but I'm sure we'll never see it again. I'm not particularly a Kennedy fan or antthing, I just miss the days when the people were actually in support of the leaders they elected.

yes, politics is a ***** today, that is quite possibly my biggest problem with this country today. politics & people are ever more seperated, this last election was a great example of this. people did not vote for kerry, THEY VOTED AGAINST BUSH!
but fear not, i have a friend who is quite wise, & has the hope of running for president. he has some great ideas for change.
but until then, i think things will only get shittier from here.
