Well yes it is but dial-up is awfully slow. If that's all you have access to then go for it! Cable and DSL can be very affordable these days. Most companies will provide modem and software at no cost to you.

Yes. from what I know, a fax modem is the same thing as a regular modem, it's just that companies like to stress that even though I'm not sure if you can recieve faxes without a machine, you can send them. The 56K is its speed. This modem can load websites at 56 kilobits per second. This sounds fast, but it takes on average 14 seconds to load the average webpage like yahoo. If you wish to use this modem, you need to reinstall your internet hardware to configure your internet corectly. To use it, you should call your provider to see if it breaks any contract agreements.

Yes - and it sits in an PCI slot of the motherboard, which means it is a internal dial-up modem. It is also capable of sending Fax using a Fax software like Microsoft Fax module for Windows.

hi a knowledge modem isn't necessary once you've a DSL connection. yet you could save it for faxing quickly from the laptop, receive faxes or in case you DSL connection isn't operating or you're travelling, then you definately can use the records modem to connect.

Yes... There are PCI cards which slide into slots within the case of your machine, but you can get external units also if you so choose.
