Because, unlike other countries, the U.S. did not establish soccer (or football as it's known for the rest of the world) as a nationally loved sport. The U.S. lavished their support for baseball and basketball, like most countries but our third sport is American Football. I don't remember seeing soccer much at all on TV when I was little which is pretty rare for a Hispanic girl. I instead saw baseball and American Football (which isn't football at all because the NFL uses their hands). Soccer has only become more of a recognized sport here with the US team going to the World Cup and more cities making their own soccer teams.
America's always wanted to be different (can we say measurement system?) than other countries and sometimes the citizens will suffer. I have only now gotten into soccer because of watching the World Cup games. I'm sad that I had missed out on such an excellent and exciting sport for so long.

masterrat17 proving once again why she's a moron. Because she doesn't understand American sports (obviously not having the mental capacity to), she must bash them. She doesn't understand the nuances of baseball, or the athleticism and the strategy involved in American football, so she must insult those who play it by deeming our competitions "make-believe." We'd be more than happy to have other teams from the world come and play our sports, but we're not going to stay up nights waiting for it.
And r_newberry knows nothing about Americans, obviously, because the game of American football is much much more technical than soccer could ever hope to be.
Americans, by and large, don't appreciate soccer for a number of reasons:
1. It's slow, and most of the action is centered around the ball.
2. Contact is discouraged, and even penalized.
3. Mentally, it's not very challening to either participate in or watch. Both baseball and football are much more technical sports, requiring thought to actually follow the game and what is happening.
4. The diving crap. Guy gets touched and goes down like a ton of bricks, holding his ankle, crying, waiting for the ref to pull out a little yellow card so that he can take the other guy's name down. If an NFL receiver did that, the next play he's getting planted six feet under by the strong safety. In fact, on a hard hit, unless you're injured, you pop right back up, if only to show the defender that that hit was nothing and I'll be back next play.
In many ways, I wish people on both sides would stop trying to compare soccer and American football because, in all honesty, they are two completely different sports now. When the first guy decided to pick the ball up and run with it, and then the forward pass option was invented, football even separated itself from rugby. There is no comparison anymore between the two sports. Some people can appreciate both for what they are, but too many on both sides can't. Thus we end up with moronic statements like the ones from masterrat17, who probably has never even tried to understand American football. Soccer is all too easy to understand, which is probably why most Americans don't consider it a challenging sport.

Because most americans are ignorent of the sport. Being ignorent they chose not to watch or participate in it. Thus they continue being ignorent. However now that younger people have started playing it they can't remain ignorent any longer. Then comes the second problem. They figure out the states suck at soccer. We dominate all kinds of sports so why watch one that we won't win at. Thank God that kids and younger adults are finally appreciating the game a little more. Even if it is because the usa finally had a good team.

im tired of answering this question...
everyone knows americans suck at real football
thats why the have these little games like american football ( which is not even football) , baseball ( YAWN) etc.. in their own country and have have make believe competitions where they can crown themselves world champions without having to play agianst any team from the world... what a bunch of losers..
look at how they were sent home .. they are still whining about it ... check ESPN and listen to the commentators for 7 mins.. u will know what i mean ..
TO TheOnlyBeldin ::
I do understand American sports .. just happen to find it extremely boring as do .. oh lets see... ? THE REST OF THE WORLD.. and dont try to disprove that .. because sport needn't be offered to anyone.. if it is in any way interesting , exciting or competitive .. the world would have picked it up by now and thank you.. for clearly proving step by step that you don't know where real football ( its not soccer , you american ignoramus) begins or ends.... and this is the end of this.. bcos i have realized that americans are not really worth it.. they aren't even good competition in football ..

it's not an art, it's a sport. if soccer is an art , so is basketball, football, baseball, etc.
not enough scoring, and it bullish that a game could end at 0-0, if i were at that game, i'd demand a refund because me and some friends, that dont play soccer, can got out there and not score a goal.

Because it is a boring game. A good game ends at 1-0 and then a riot breaks out. Whats up with that?

Oh that's easy....for the same reason Canadians don't.
We have a seance of "HONOR" We don't roll around on the ground crying and screaming at the ref to win the game for us. Why would we want to appreciate or take pride in that?

Simple. They are uneducated and because they dont understand the game and are not very good at it, and cannot "dominate" the sport, then they simply do not want to know.
