An Asp is a type of African viper. It's a snake. Perhaps a Wasp is what you meant? That's a flying insect, along the lines of a bee.

Nope, you spelled it right. An asp is another name for a cobra. Whoever told you about the insect thing either doesn't know what they're talking about, or just made you look stupid for fun. Which you do! (Sorry, I can't help it)

The puss caterpillar is also known as an 'asp'. Growing up in Texas, we had them all over the trees and bushes. I got stung on the face in several places and it was very painful.
