I once read a trivia question about 6 different ways to score points in american pro football (NFL). I only know of 5 ways. Is there some other very obscure rule that allows points to be scored?

PAT - 1
Two Point Conversion - 2
Safety - 2
Field Goal - 3
Touchdown - 6
In College football on a PAT or 2 point conversion if the opposing team recovers a turnover and runs it into their endzone they are awarded 2 points. (Does not apply to the NFL)

Like chess pieces have ration values, different ways to score also have ratio values in football. Keep in mind that unlike baseball or hockey, there is more than one way to score points in football. In that respect, football is like basketball which also gives different point values to scoring different ways. Why? Because it is harder or easier to do. For example, in chess a pawn is worth only one point and a queen is worth ten. Thus, those that know the game and have decided the point values have determined that a queen is 10 times more valuable than a pawn. The same is true with football points. The powers that be have decided that a field goal is 1/2 as valuable as a touchdown; a safety is 1/3 as valuable; and an extra point is 1/6 as valuable. If you have played the game or know much about it, those value ratios are about right.

if your talking the many different ways to score points, there are much more then 6.... if your talking just the basics, that is td's in general, pat's, fg's etc.... then there is 6....

i will list the multiple ways of scoring you choose what 6 you want.

1) run for a td
2) pass for a td(same as catching a td)
3)kick an extra point(a drop kick is considered an extra point)
4)kick a field goal
5)tackle opponent in there own endzone for safety
(theres more ways to score a safety, but we will stick with this for now)
6)2 pt-conversion
7) return a interception for a td
8) return a fumble for a td( or recover 1 in endzone)
9) return a blocked punt for a td
10) return a blocked fg for a td
11) return a missed fg for a td (chicago bears game last yr)
12)return a punt for a td
13) return a kick-off for a td
<<< in college there r 2 more ways to score>>>>
14) return a blocked extra point to the end zone(1 pt )
15) return a 2 pt conversion attempt to the end zone
(on int. or fumble ) <<<*** only awarded 1 pt****>>>

these can all be broken down even further, if you wanted to get real technical, but those r the basic ways to score, so you choose how u want to figure out the 6 ways you r talking about
my work for today is done.......

The basics are a Touchdown, Field Goal, Safety, Two Point Try, and One Point Try. I'm not sure, but what your source may be referring to is a rule that states that after any kick, (punt, kickoff, safety kick) a team may call a fair catch. After any fair catch, the team may try a free kick, which is a place kick (or drop kick) all but unopposed by the other team, which must stay ten yards back until the kick. This is worth three points, but is technically different from a field goal. (it is extremely rare because kicks usually put teams out of kicking range without a return) Irrelevantly enough, the only times I know of this succeeding is by my Bears against the Packers, and the Packers against my Bears. (the Titans tried and failed in 2005)
